Materials And Processes Engineer For Human Lander System

Amentum Space Exploration Division is seeking a Materials and Processes Engineer to support the Human Lander System (HLS) program, contributing to the development of Moon and Mars landers. This role involves coordinating across commercial and NASA programs while ensuring compliance with NASA regulations and standards. The successful candidate will collaborate with various departments and programs to define materials needs and contribute to mission-critical spacecraft systems. Key Responsibilities: Coordinate between different commercial and NASA programs Ensure compliance with NASA regulations and standards Collaborate with various departments and programs to define materials needs Maintain professional relationships with NASA customers, other NASA support contractors, and HLS commercial partners Contribute to the development of systems safety and reliability products for the lunar lander Participate in mission planning and ensure the integrity of the human-rated lunar lander spacecraft Work with team members to identify risks, develop risk statements, and formulate responses Review Hazard Analyses and safety documentation Conduct materials evaluations and design analysis for research, development, manufacturing, flight, and in-space programs Review manufacturing processes including forging, brake forming, extrusions, welding, metal joining, surface treatments, heat treatments, and corrosion mitigation techniques Recommend appropriate testing protocols required to verify compliance with materials and processes standards Work on trade studies and participate in stakeholder reviews Review documentation for major milestone reviews including CBR (Certification Baseline Review), PDR (Preliminary Design Review), CDR (Critical Design Review), DCR (Design Certification Review), COFR (Certification of Flight Readiness) and other program milestones Collaborate with a diverse team of engineers, specialists, and designers to enhance the overall project Attend HLS Project meetings and provide meeting summaries to technical leads Work effectively in a team environment Report to the team lead providing status on progress, issues, and requests for support Perform other duties as required to support program objectives Required Qualifications: Education: Bachelor's degree in Materials Engineering or equivalent field Experience Requirements (one of the following): Bachelor's degree with 15-20 years of related experience Master's degree with 13+ years of related experience PhD with a minimum of 9 years of related experience Work Environment: This position is located in Huntsville, AL, supporting NASA Marshall Space Flight Center. The role requires regular interaction with NASA personnel, commercial partners, and internal team members in a collaborative, mission-critical environment.
