Warren County is seeking highly motivated and skilled candidates to fill the position of Deputy Treasurer II . This is a full-time position that performs skilled clerical and technical work assisting with the operations of the Treasurers Office.
This position is responsible for receiving payments, recording receipts, reconciling accounts, and assisting the public.
Other duties include front desk support such as receiving incoming calls, answering questions, and providing information on Treasurers Office matters. This position will also prepare and maintain books, records, and ledgers, assist, and oversee personnel engaged in the collection and receipt of county and state taxes, fees, and charges. Other duties also include checking for paid or delinquent real estate taxes, collecting and auditing daily receipts, processing estimated income and taxable year income accounts, preparing cash sheets and posting to ledger, preparing bank deposit certificates, balancing bank statements, assisting in coding bills for escrow accounts requested from mortgage companies, updating property records, verifying assessment and money received agree, reconciling county records with Virginia Department of Accounts, totaling and endorsing checks on check writing machine, collecting and processing business license tax payments, assisting in the printing and mailing of real estate, personal property and sanitary district bills, typing letters, memos, and reconciliation reports. Performs related tasks as required.
A successful candidate will have thorough knowledge of the principles underlying the laws, ordinances and regulations governing the operations of the Treasurer's Office, general knowledge of the principles, methods and practices of accounting, some knowledge of business and office practices, ability to analyze and interpret fiscal and accounting data and to prepare appropriate statements and reports, ability to operate standard office, word processing and data processing equipment, ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions, and ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates and the general public.
Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school is required, and considerable clerical experience and some local property tax work is preferred.
The starting salary is $36,212.80, depending on qualifications and experience, with an excellent benefits package.
