Overview The Program Director for the Obstetrics and Gynecology Residency Program is a visionary and experienced leader responsible for the overall direction, organization, and effective operation of the residency program. This role ensures the program's full compliance with ACGME Program Requirements for Graduate Medical Education, the ACGME Common Program Requirements, and institutional policies. The Program Director fosters an optimal educational environment that trains competent, compassionate, and skilled obstetrician-gynecologists.
Key Responsibilities
Program Leadership & Oversight:
Provide strategic leadership and direction for all aspects of the OB/GYN residency program.
Ensure ongoing accreditation status by maintaining full compliance with all ACGME Program Requirements and Common Program Requirements.
Develop, implement, and continuously evaluate the program's curriculum to ensure comprehensive training across all required areas of Obstetrics and Gynecology.
Oversee the quality of didactic and clinical educational experiences to meet educational objectives and resident learning.
Resident Management & Development:
Lead resident recruitment and selection with fair, holistic review of applicants.
Provide supervision, mentorship, and guidance to residents.
Implement and oversee a robust system for resident evaluation, including regular feedback, performance assessments, and promotion decisions.
Monitor resident well-being and provide resources to support physical and mental health.
Address resident concerns, grievances, and disciplinary matters in accordance with policies.
Faculty Management & Development:
Recruit, develop, and retain qualified faculty members committed to resident education.
Evaluate faculty performance as educators, mentors, and supervisors.
Promote faculty scholarly activity and professional development.
Ensure faculty are knowledgeable about and compliant with ACGME requirements.
Program Evaluation & Improvement:
Conduct regular program evaluations, including annual reviews, using resident and faculty feedback and outcome data.
Develop and implement action plans for continuous program improvement.
Maintain accurate program records, including resident files and curriculum documentation.
Administrative & Resource Management:
Manage the program's budget and allocate resources to support educational activities.
Requires a minimum of 0.5 FTE (20 hours per week) of dedicated administrative time for program oversight and management.
Collaborate with the Designated Institutional Official (DIO) and the Graduate Medical Education Committee (GMEC).
Represent the program within the department, institution, and at national professional organizations.
Ensure adequate clinical and educational resources are available to residents.
Scholarly Activity:
Promote and engage in scholarly activity, including research, quality improvement projects, and educational innovations.
Encourage resident and faculty participation in scholarly endeavors.
Qualifications
Education & Certification:
Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO).
Board Certification by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology (ABOG) or equivalent.
Current, unrestricted Connecticut medical license or the ability to secure one.
Experience:
Minimum of three years of experience as an active faculty member in an ACGME-accredited OB/GYN residency program.
Prior leadership experience within a residency program.
Demonstrated expertise in curriculum development, resident evaluation, and program administration.
Skills & Attributes:
