Overview
The Associate Program Director (APD) for the Obstetrics and Gynecology Residency Program is a key leadership position that supports the Program Director in all aspects of program administration, resident education, and compliance with ACGME requirements. The APD plays a crucial role in enhancing the educational experience for residents and contributing to the program's overall success and continuous improvement.
Responsibilities
Program Support & Administration
Assist the Program Director in ensuring full compliance with ACGME Program Requirements for Obstetrics and Gynecology and ACGME Common Program Requirements.
Support the development, implementation, and evaluation of the residency curriculum.
Participate in the annual program review and contribute to the development of program improvement initiatives.
Act as a liaison between residents, faculty, and the Program Director on various matters.
Assume the responsibilities of the Program Director in their absence.
Requires a minimum of 0.2 FTE (8 hours per week) of dedicated administrative time for program support and management.
Resident Education & Mentorship
Provide direct mentorship and advising to residents, guiding their professional and personal development.
Participate in the resident recruitment and selection process, including reviewing applications and conducting interviews.
Contribute to the resident evaluation process, including providing feedback, conducting performance assessments, and participating in Clinical Competency Committee (CCC) meetings.
Oversee specific areas of resident education, such as didactic sessions, simulation training, or specific clinical rotations, as assigned by the Program Director.
Monitor resident duty hours and ensure compliance with ACGME requirements.
Faculty Engagement
Collaborate with the Program Director in faculty development initiatives.
Assist in the evaluation of faculty teaching and mentorship.
Encourage faculty participation in resident education and program activities.
Quality Improvement & Scholarly Activity
Participate in program-specific quality improvement initiatives.
Encourage and facilitate resident scholarly activity, including research and quality improvement projects.
Engage in personal scholarly activity.
Curriculum Development (Specific Focus)
May be assigned specific areas of curriculum development, such as subspecialty rotations, resident research curriculum, or resident well-being initiatives.
Ensure educational goals and objectives are met within assigned curriculum areas.
Qualifications
Education & Certification
Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) degree.
Board Certification by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology (ABOG) or equivalent.
Current, unrestricted medical license in the state where the program is located.
Experience
Minimum of one year of experience as an active faculty member in an ACGME-accredited Obstetrics and Gynecology residency program.
Demonstrated interest and experience in medical education, curriculum development, or resident mentorship.
