Santa Barbara Infrared, Inc. (SBIR) is recruiting for the position of Senior Electro-Optical/Infrared (EO/IR) Systems Engineer. The Senior EO/IR Systems Engineer's primary responsibility will be to define, design, and analyze electro-optical test systems as part of SBIR's core product development (Infrared Scene Projectors, Standard Commercial Products, and Integrated Electro-Optical Test Systems). The role also supports product integration, characterization, and verification and validation. SBIR designs and manufactures advanced EO/IR test instrumentation used for military, commercial, and research sensor systems. SBIR is a fast-paced subsidiary of HEICO Corporation, with a history of serving aerospace, defense, and electronics industries. The Senior EO/IR Systems Engineer will contribute to continuing and growing SBIR's heritage in quality hardware and software solutions for the EO/IR community. Salary: $170,000/yr. - $195,000/yr. -- DOE. Schedule: Full-Time, M-F. Responsibilities

Develops product architecture and system requirements; performs requirements decomposition and flow-down for complex EO/IR test systems. Performs system performance modeling, trade studies, and requirements flow-down analysis to support product development. Collaborates with electrical, mechanical, and software engineering staff to guide new product development and sustaining efforts for standard products. Works with the technical team to optimize process flow and documentation. Develops test plans and procedures based on system requirements. Collects and analyzes test data, and calibrates for optimal system performance. Interacts directly with customers during factory acceptance testing and travels to customer facilities to lead on-site system installation, integration, and training. Performs troubleshooting, test, and calibration in support of ongoing programs and special-purpose programs. Performs analysis to support Sales in identifying solutions to potential customers' applications. Qualifications

Required: BS/BA in physics, engineering, or other relevant technical degree. Minimum 10 years' experience in electro-optics, infrared systems, or a related field. An advanced degree may count toward years of experience. Solid foundation in optics, sensors, and EO/IR sensing systems with applications to ground, air, or space systems. Experience with physical modeling, simulation, and analysis. Systems engineering experience on EO/IR hardware development: requirements flow-down, trade studies, FMEA/RCCA, product lifecycle support, test plan and procedure development. Laboratory experience with optical systems test and components for active and/or passive optical systems. Experience developing optical error budgets. Ability to set priorities and organize incoming projects. Ability to communicate system requirements, testing needs, debug information, and design concepts with other engineering disciplines. Familiarity with Microsoft Windows; proficiency with Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Ability to communicate with vendors and customer teams and demonstrate system performance through factory and site acceptance testing. Willingness and ability to travel to customer facilities (5-15%). Preferred Qualifications

Advanced degree in physics, engineering, or other relevant technical degree. Technical leadership experience, including high-level project planning, mentorship, and roadmap development. Experience in opto-mechanical design and analysis (STOP analysis) and tolerancing. Experience and/or expertise with EO/IR technology, imaging, radiometry, and calibration techniques. Proficiency with C/C++, MATLAB, and/or Python. Proficiency with image processing and/or analysis software. Experience with optical design and simulation tools (Zemax or equivalent). Experience with MEMS and/or photolithography fabrication processes and packaging of ICs. Experience with electronics including ICs, microcontrollers, FPGAs, and high-throughput data transfer.
