Lockaby PLLC serves as trusted counsel for individuals and small- and mid-sized businesses across the Commonwealth of Kentucky and beyond, providing counsel on labor-and-employment, corporate, M&A, and litigation matters.
The Firm is looking to add an experienced labor-and-employment attorney to its team, with a preference for candidates capable of assuming the role of the Chair of the Labor & Employment practice group.
While the qualifications listed below are general guidelines for the ideal candidate, they are not set in stone. The Firm is in search of a bright, dedicated, and highly-motivated attorney who is up for the challenge of working with us to achieve our goal of becoming the preeminent, most trusted legal counsel for small- and mid-sized businesses in Kentucky .
What You\'ll Be Asked To Do:
Draft, review, and negotiate (for employees and employers) all variety of employment-related contracts, including employment agreements, contractor agreements, severance and separation agreements, and non-compete agreements and other restrictive covenants.
Advise business owners, HR personnel, and management on a wide variety of personnel issues that arise during the employment lifespan, including issues relating to recruiting and hiring, disciplinary action, leaves of absence, internal investigations, and termination/separation.
Defend discrimination, retaliation, harassment, and wage-and-hour claims in state and federal courts and administrative agencies, including setting case strategy; taking depositions; preparing pleadings, motions, briefs, and other documents to be filed with the court; and preparing for trial.
Assist with labor-and-employment and HR due-diligence activities related to M&A transactions.
Draft content for the firm\'s social-media channels.
Perform legal research and draft legal memoranda.
Supervise, direct, and oversee the work of associates, law clerks, paralegals, and other staff members.
Other tasks as assigned.
Qualifications:
Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school.
Admission to practice in the Commonwealth of Kentucky (out-of-state candidates willing to sit for the Kentucky bar exam or eligible for admission in Kentucky will be considered).
Preferred candidates have a minimum of 7+ years of experience practicing labor-and-employment law.
Preferred candidates have a portable book of business (but not required), and compensation will be adjusted accordingly.
Strong knowledge of employment laws, including the Kentucky Civil Rights Act, the Kentucky Uniform Trade Secrets Act, Title VII, ADA, ADEA, FMLA, USERRA, the Defend Trade Secrets Act, etc.
Litigation and dispute resolution experience in state and federal courts and administrative agencies, including the Kentucky Labor Cabinet, the Kentucky Commission on Human Rights, the DOL, and the EEOC.
Excellent analytical, research, and writing skills.
Excellent judgment and discretion, including under pressure and time constraints.
Ability to communicate complex legal concepts in a clear and concise manner to clients and stakeholders.
Strong attention to detail and ability to work independently or as part of a team.
Excellent organizational and time-management skills.
