Job Description Vertex is seeking a talented scientist to join the Analytical Development organization in Boston, MA. This individual will help advance transformative medicines by performing analytical chemistry activities through all stages of clinical development. This role is in the Liquid Chromatography Subject Matter Expert (SME) team, dedicated to small molecule and synthetic peptide/oligonucleotide LC method development for both drug substances and drug products. The successful candidate will lead LC method development activities for assigned projects, participate as a core member in cross-departmental program teams, and serve as a technical expert in the space of liquid chromatography. This is an onsite position. Flex Designation:
On-Site Flex Eligibility Status:
In this On-Site designated role, you will work five days per week on-site with ad hoc flexibility. The Flex status for this position is subject to Vertex\'s Policy on Flex @ Vertex Program and may be changed at any time.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
Develop analytical methods on HPLC/UHPLC with various detection systems (UV, QDa, CAD, etc.) for small molecules and synthetic peptides/oligonucleotides
Conduct experiments independently following established methodology, procedures, and SOPs
Exercise solid judgment to prioritize studies while considering feasibility, timelines, and project impact
Independently prepare presentations and presents experimental conclusions at internal or external meetings
Work collaboratively, cross-functionally, and within the team to achieve program goals
Author and review method documents, analytical study protocols, and reports
Maintain accurate notebook entries and adhere to governing SOPs
Perform data verification/review of peer notebooks
Knowledge and Skills
Design and execution of complex, challenging experiments
Technical expertise in analytical techniques that include HPLC, UHPLC, IC, or LC-MS
Demonstrated written and verbal communication skills especially in peer-directed presentations and report writing
Experience in HPLC/UHPLC method development
Advanced troubleshooting skills and problem-solving capabilities
Strong analytical data assessment, review, and interpretation skills
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, managing priorities, and maintaining timelines
Education and Experience
Ph.D. (or equivalent degree) and 0-3 years of relevant post-doctoral employment experience in analytical chemistry or the life/physical sciences
Masters Degree (or equivalent degree) and 3+ years of relevant employment experience, or
Bachelors Degree (or equivalent degree) and 6+ years of relevant employment experience
Pay Range $99,600 - $149,400
Disclosure Statement The range provided is based on what we believe is a reasonable estimate for the base salary pay range for this job at the time of posting. This role is eligible for an annual bonus and annual equity awards. Some roles may also be eligible for overtime pay, in accordance with federal and state requirements. Actual base salary pay will be based on a number of factors, including skills, competencies, experience, and other job-related factors permitted by law.
