VSRE
The Controller will manage all aspects of accounting across VSRE’s business divisions: property management, development, brokerage, and corporate operations. This is a hands-on role responsible for accurate financial reporting, budgeting, internal controls, and compliance, while also supporting the executive team with data-driven financial insights.
The ideal candidate has strong technical accounting expertise, commercial real estate experience, and the ability to work across multiple divisions in a fast-growing firm.
The Controller will work closely with property managers, project managers, brokers, and senior leadership to ensure accounting accuracy and operational efficiency across all divisions.
Responsibilities:
Corporate Accounting
Lead the month-end and year-end close process. Prepare consolidated financial statements and cash flow forecasts. Manage treasury functions, bank reconciliations, and cash management. Coordinate with external CPA for audits, tax filings, and compliance. Maintain and improve internal controls and accounting policies. Property Management Accounting
Manage Financial Operations & Transaction processes. Monitor & Assist with Budgeting, Forecasting & Reconciliations Manage Cash Flow & Banking Activity Ensure Compliance with Audits & Internal Controls Collaborate with Property Managers & Provide Client Support Development & Construction Project Accounting
Manage job cost accounting, including budgets, commitments, and draw requests. Prepare budget-to-actual reports and lender packages. Partner with project managers to ensure timely and accurate reporting. Brokerage Lease Accounting
Record and reconcile lease commissions, track receivables, and process closings. Maintain accurate brokerage revenue schedules. Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (CPA preferred). 7+ years of progressive accounting experience, with at least 3–5 years in commercial real estate. Knowledge of GAAP and real estate-specific accounting practices. Subject matter expert in Yardi, MRI, or similar software, including ability to build queries, generate reports, and troubleshoot errors; construction accounting software a plus. Advanced Excel skills and strong financial analysis capabilities. Excellent communication, organizational, and leadership skills.
