Manager of Wireless Network Engineering . The Network Wireless Manager directs a team of engineers that sustain CU Boulder’s wireless network. This is a hands-on Manager with the ability to demonstrate expertise in the daily operation of an enterprise-class network, including network management, financial oversight, trouble resolution, configuration development and deployment. This role requires the application of communication skills with the ability to develop and grow business relationships and drive a customer-first focus. Responsibilities

What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be

– Leadership and Management: Responsible for managing network wireless engineers, including human resource responsibilities (updating job descriptions, hiring, coaching, mentoring). Collaborate with the Associate Director of Network Engineering & Operations and direct reports to write goal plans that include ongoing training and documentation initiatives.

Operational Support: Work alongside the wireless network engineering team to implement new and emerging network technologies across campus. This includes high-density wireless deployments, emerging WiFi technologies, and life-safety LMR systems. Solve sophisticated issues and communicate solutions to complex problems at a broad level. Ensure wireless infrastructure design considers the needs and capabilities of the wired network (backbone, core, border networks, firewalls). Regularly collaborate with internal and external partners to align technologies and avoid disparate network environments.

Process Improvement: Review existing processes to identify areas for improvement, including equipment maintenance and tracking, On-Call procedures, network monitoring and alerting, customer service engagements, and knowledge base updates.

Documentation: Ensure departmental and networking documentation is created and available in the OIT knowledge base portal. Update as technology evolves and collaborate with network engineers and technical writers to maintain program continuity.

Financial Oversight: Responsible for network equipment and staff salary planning and budget creation. Manage renewals, replacements, purchasing plans, FTE/temporary positions, salary upgrades, asset tracking, and contracts. Coordinate with the OIT finance office for financial oversight.

Customer Service: Monitor service and incident requests for duration and quality. Meet with internal and campus partners regularly to understand needs and ensure network services provide value. Resolve issues promptly and supervise daily work within the unit, including request and incident management.

What You Should Know

Standard schedule Monday-Friday 8am – 5pm. Occasional work outside of normal business hours to support outages and events. Hybrid position with on-campus presence within 1 hour.

The salary range for this position is $102,612 - $120,570.

What We Require

A bachelor's degree or equivalent experience from an accredited institution in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a closely related field. A combination of education and/or job-related experience may be substituted for the degree on a year-for-year basis.

5 years of experience that includes:

Working in Network Administration or Engineering in an enterprise or campus environment;

Managing an enterprise wireless network;

2 years of experience with network monitoring and alerting using industry-standard tools such as SolarWinds, Nagios, or similar.

A Valid U.S. Driver's License.
