The School of Humanities and Sciences at Stanford invites applications for a Survey Research Scientist (Academic Program Professional 2) to help launch the Stanford Institute for Excellence in Survey Research (SIESR). The role focuses on providing survey research guidance, analyzing survey data, developing reports for the Public Pulse project, and supporting Stanford researchers in human behavior study and public opinion measurement. The initiative aims to advance survey methodology, production of accurate surveys, and dissemination of findings to academics, policymakers, media, and industry. This is a startup-like opportunity to design, manage, and grow a new program on the Stanford campus with a hybrid work arrangement depending on organizational needs. Responsibilities
Consult with faculty and students on survey design, administration, and data analysis, including support for proposal development that includes a survey component. Source, collect, and analyze data; write scripts for reproducible data collection methods; create databases to hold data and make it publicly available. Develop tip sheets on best practices for survey research and promote awareness within the research community. Write and edit complex content for proposals, peer‑reviewed publications, and program activities; assist with grant development and summarizing data needs and findings. Contribute to strategic program planning and funding sustainability; manage research activities and coordinate changes. Identify, recommend, and implement opportunities for new research; represent the program as a key contact and subject matter expert; organize outreach, events, partnerships, fundraising, training, and conferences; lead workshops and meetings. Monitor expenses, budgets, and finances; provide funding recommendations based on program spending. Qualifications
Education and Experience A PhD in a social science with emphasis on survey research and methods is highly preferred. Program administration and research experience are required. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Entrepreneurial mindset with enthusiasm for developing a new venture; data engineering, automation, packaging; scientific computing, open science, and FAIR data principles; data management, analysis, and wrangling; strong written and oral communication; ability to oversee staff and provide basic direction. Highly Desired Academic interest in advancing survey methodology. The expected pay range is
$116,966 to $150,114 per year , with Stanford pay practices described in the pay and benefits information provided during hiring. The position is full-time, 100% FTE, for a two-year term with potential extension based on funding and performance. Hybrid eligible. Benefits and Equity
