Overview
One of our religious affiliated financial clients is looking for a Senior level Head of Research and Data to join their team sitting in Midtown Manhattan 3x a week. On a daily basis the Head of Research will spend their time collecting, analyzing and building predictive models from the many forms of data available to the company to support the organization’s decision making and evaluation of various programs. The Head of Research also serves as Recorder of Ordinations for their client with responsibility for tracking ordinations, deployment, terminations, and demographic data. The individual will publish and present various research reports in person, virtually and on the company website, and from time to time, may help respond to legislation passed by the General Convention, which is the governing body of the denomination. The Head of Research’s primary role is to serve as a strategic consultant to the company’s corporate and business units by providing relevant data and insight support for business decisions and assisting with metrics definition and tracking. They will manage a team of data scientists and other research specialists who collaborate with colleagues and client organizations to track and report ordination, deployment, compensation, retirement, revenue, parish closures, client experience, medical claims information, client and employee engagement with their offerings, weather events, and other trends available in various data systems. They also may be called upon to cooperate in additional research requested by the client and may make presentations to the leadership of the company and client, including Board of Trustees. Responsibilities
Utilizing the extensive internal database, analyze trends in compensation, deployment, clergy demographics, pension levels, the adequacy of pensions, and engagement with multiple product and services offerings Manage a team of data scientists, qualitative and quantitative researchers who are responsible for delivering actionable insights to colleagues Define and track metrics of success for the company and various projects Advise senior executives and assists with decision making consistent with company strategic plan. Establish and maintain contact with researchers in relevant industries, other faith communities, non-profit organizations in order to support the company purpose and comply with General Convention resolutions Make data available to other researchers, publish various periodic and special analyses each year, and monitor and recommend changes to the company for the proper collection and maintenance of data Qualifications
Skills and Requirements Must Haves: 10+ yrs of relevant Research and Data experience 5+ yrs of people management experience BA/BS required (degree in a social science focus preferred) Proficient in reading and/or writing code (basic languages- Python, SQL, etc.) Experience and a strong aptitude for understanding statistical and financial analysis, data analysis, predictive analytics Ability to build predictive and statistical modeling Hands on knowledge of the construction and application of computerized databases and related software systems is essential Strong managerial and team building skills for qualitative and quantitative research individuals Outstanding communications skills (both written and oral) with the ability to explain abstract and complicated concepts to diverse audiences Plusses 5+ yrs of business consulting (serving as a strategic consultant to internal decision makers) is preferred Coming from an insurance, annuities, benefits, disability and/or financial background Machine Learning experience EEO Statement
