The California Department of Social Services (CDSS) Legal Division is recruiting to fill one permanent full-time Attorney III position in its Community Care Licensing (CCL) Enforcement Branch. The office location is Oakland. This position allows for telework at an alternative work location when not required to report to the office. Travel reimbursements are based on the office location. As an Attorney III, you will handle complex and sensitive legal work related to laws, regulations, and policies administered by the Department. This includes providing advice to the Community Care Licensing Division and applicable county clients, and regularly appearing before administrative tribunals representing the interests of those receiving care or residing in community care facilities or related programs. You will play a critical role in enforcing licensing statutes and prosecuting cases that affect the health and safety of vulnerable populations. You will develop evidence, strategies, and litigation tactics for a wide range of cases, including license revocations, denials, and employee/licensee exclusion actions. You will work with licensing clients, witnesses, medical staff, experts, investigators, prosecutors, and law enforcement to prosecute complex cases, including child maltreatment and elder abuse. You should possess expertise in evidentiary rules, hearsay, and trial-related theory, and be adept at facilitating settlements and stipulations as appropriate.
