Overview
The California Department of Social Services (CDSS), Legal Division, is recruiting for one permanent, full-time Attorney III position to support the Community Care Licensing Policy and Litigation Branch (CCLD). The successful candidate will primarily provide legal support to the CCLD and may work with other CDSS programs as needed. The position is located in Sacramento County with hybrid telework options. Salary: $10,852.00 - $15,325.00 per month. New state candidates will be hired at the minimum of the classification or minimum of the alternate range when applicable. Number of positions: 1. The Legal Division provides professional and ethical legal advice and zealous representation to enable CDSS to implement its mission, goals, and program policies. The divisions policy and litigation branches support licensing policy, regulation, and legislation for CDSS programs. Responsibilities
Provide legal support to the Community Care Licensing Division (CCLD) on licensing policy, regulation, and legislation. Conduct research and analysis on licensing issues; prepare legal opinions and policy interpretations; draft responses to inquiries from the Health and Human Services Agency, executive staff, advocates, and the public. Assist in analyzing, drafting, and reviewing CDSS regulation packages and proposed federal regulations affecting CDSS programs; draft legislation; provide training and information to CDSS licensing staff. Consult with Deputy Attorney Generals on litigation where CDSS is a party; assist with complex litigation issues and negotiations. Provide legal support to one or more CCLD programs as needed, with primary focus on the Childrens Residential Program. Qualifications
Appointed or eligible for appointment as an Attorney III in California Civil Service; current California State Bar membership required or eligibility for appointment as described in the posting. Ability to perform sensitive and complex legal work with minimal supervision; become an expert in laws, regulations, and policies related to CCLD. Experience in legal research, drafting, and analysis related to licensing, regulation, and statutory interpretation. Special Requirements
