Overview EXP is currently searching for a Fire Protection Engineer to support projects for our Chicago Headquarters. This professional engineer will utilize our flexible hybrid model that includes engineering, design, and specification of fire protection systems for our governmental, education, commercial, and entertainment market sectors. Your work environment at EXP What a day at EXP has in store for you Revit and CAD proficient with fire protection drawings Develop sections, riser diagrams and elevations of complex equipment and piping areas Develop equipment room sizes during SD and DD phases Determine content of drawings and specs to meet the scope of work Edit specifications to reflect project requirements Select and schedule equipment with limited oversight Meet with vendors to determine specification requirements for application Critically evaluate contractor pricing and cost estimates Maintain the Engineering Book for the project Respond to RFIs and review submittals Understand work planning and manage design process to the available hours in the work plan on multiple projects Work with team, project manager and clients to meet scheduled milestones on multiple projects Solve installation problems with fire protection systems; travel to the site to resolve issues Perform site surveys independently Code research to comply with local codes and meet with code officials Strong knowledge of NFPA code sections, IBC, ASHREA, ASME and OSHA, and year-to-year variations Write new specification sections; develop new details as required Apply risk management procedures daily to minimize EXP’s and client’s exposure to problems Edit and develop scope of work narratives (SD narrative, basis of design, etc.) Write studies and reports for fire protection systems on various projects Fire pump – select pump and accessories for proper pressures and layouts Flow test – direct water flow tests at hydrants or hose connections Understand and apply gas suppression, deluge, pre-action systems, and high-rise design Basic knowledge of Factory Mutual standards Analyze fire hazards and mitigate fire damage by proper design Construction coordination/arrangements Familiar with building structures, materials Experience with fire modeling and simulation software Strong management and organization skills Experience in conducting existing fire protection system and risk assessments Experience with wet pipe systems per NFPA 13, NFPA 14 Qualifications 4+ years of building fire protection design experience on commercial building projects across multiple industry segments (governmental, education, commercial, entertainment, etc.) Engineering Degree (BS Architectural Engineering, BS Mechanical Engineering, BS Fire Protection Engineering, or equivalent) preferred Registered Fire Protection Engineering (FPE) License or eligible for immediate registration REVIT MEP and AutoCAD proficiency Ability to travel to client meetings and project sites for walkthrough activities Compensation and Benefits The pay range for this role is $125,000 to $150,000. Actual compensation packages are based on several factors that are unique to each candidate, including skill set, depth of experience, certifications, and specific work location. This may differ in other locations due to differences in the cost of labor.
