We are looking for a driven Senior Manager of Business Development to take charge of developing and executing strategic marketing and business development plans for the Emerging Companies Venture Capital Practice (ECVC) within our Corporate Department.
The ideal candidate will possess a robust understanding of the venture capital ecosystem, experience in mentoring junior business development professionals, and a proven track record in Big Law business development. You will thrive in our entrepreneurial environment and work directly with ECVC practice group leaders while managing at least one direct report and reporting to the Director of Business Development for the Corporate Department.
This position is available as a hybrid work schedule.
Responsibilities:
Develop and execute strategic plans for the ECVC in collaboration with practice group and office leaders.
Work closely with Corporate Department leadership and key partners to drive and implement their marketing and business development plans.
Collaborate on key technology and innovation initiatives.
Maintain a deep understanding of the ECVC’s client base and the work being performed.
Oversee venture capital deal data collection and league table reporting.
Develop and implement client targeting programs and pursuit teams.
Work with the marketing manager to enhance the visibility of ECVC through events, sponsorships, public relations, and social media.
Identify and support cross-practice, cross-department, and cross-region opportunities.
Manage high-impact assignments from senior BD leadership, ensuring effective execution.
Build and nurture relationships with relevant organizations and vendors to enhance business development efforts.
Direct the creation of marketing materials, RFP responses, and pitches to help secure new business.
Provide business intelligence on markets, clients, prospects, competitors, and individuals.
Advise ECVC attorneys throughout all stages of marketing and business development.
Serve as a coach for newly promoted partners and select senior associates in business development.
Develop regular internal communications showcasing the practice’s achievements and marketplace trends.
Share relevant trends with the broader BD team.
Educate the BD team regarding ECVC’s capabilities and market trends.
Partner with all functional groups to plan and execute key initiatives for the practice.
Qualifications: Bachelor's degree is required.
7+ years in marketing and/or client development, with at least 3 years in a law firm.
Strong commercial acumen; ability to understand the needs of attorneys and clients.
Proven ability to manage strategy, execution, and evaluation of initiatives.
Adept at synthesizing information to make recommendations.
Exceptional verbal and written communication skills are critical.
Ability to work cross-functionally, contributing to a supportive and collegial culture.
Self-starter who excels in managing multiple, high-visibility projects with tight deadlines.
Strong analytical skills required for communication of data.
Excellent organizational skills to effectively manage time and prioritize tasks.
Strong interpersonal skills to engage effectively at all levels of the firm.
A demonstrated passion for emerging technologies, such as AI, Cleantech, Fintech, Mobility, Quantum Computing, and Robotics.
Ability to travel as needed.
The position is ideally based in the San Francisco Bay Area but other locations may be considered.
The anticipated pay range for this position is as follows: San Francisco and Silicon Valley: $163,200 - $220,800 per year; Austin, Boston, Boulder, Washington D.C., Los Angeles, New York, San Diego, Seattle, and Wilmington: $147,050 - $198,950 per year; Salt Lake City and all other locations: $130,900 - $177,100 per year.
