About This Role Under the general supervision of the Chief Administrative Law Judge, Appeals Division, and under direct supervision of the Staff Services Manager I, the Legal Analyst provides paralegal support for the Appeals Division. The Legal Analyst works as an assistant to administrative law judges; handles paralegal duties which are analytical in nature.

Work Arrangements

This position provides hybrid telework opportunities, with employees required to work in-person at least two days per week. Beginning July 1, 2025, all employees will be required to work in-person at least four days per week in alignment with Executive Order N-22-25.

The office is located at 1810 16th Street, Sacramento

Effective June 30, 2025 CalHR will remain at 2 days per week in office. This is subject to change based on operational needs.

Salary $6,146.00 - $7,698.00 per month

New to State candidates will be hired into the minimum salary of the classification or minimum of alternate range when applicable.

Applicants must number and include the full text of the SOQ items in their response. Please include specific examples of your education, training, and/or experience. SOQs should be limited to a maximum of two (2) pages, single-spaced, 1" margins, and twelve-point Arial font.

As the analyst in charge of Calendaring, you are responsible for managing the schedules of different units that may have conflicting schedules. What steps would you take to resolve the conflicts? If the (resolved) schedule results in an uneven workload distribution between the units and/or individuals in the unit, how would you balance the workload?

Describe your experience in conducting legal research and drafting legal briefs. If you do not have experience with legal research or drafting legal briefs, please use any similar experience.

Desirable Qualifications In addition to evaluating each candidate's relative ability, as demonstrated by quality and breadth of experience, the following factors will provide the basis for competitively evaluating each candidate:

Experience working with calendaring and setting hearings

Experience in legal research, writing and editing

Highly organized and detail-oriented. Strong interpersonal, analytical, verbal and written communication skills

Ability to propose workable solutions in a tactful, constructive manner with staff at all levels of the organization

Ability to develop and maintain cooperative working relationships with, and gain the confidence and support of, Board staff and customers

Ability to learn and navigate complex computer systems, in addition to proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and Excel

Knowledge of state personnel laws and policies

Excellent attendance required
