British American Household Staffing, Dobbs Ferry, New York, United States, 10522
Overview
A warm, busy family of six is seeking a proactive, calm, and intuitive Family Assistant/Nanny. With four children (ages 14, twin 11-year-olds, and a 7-year-old), this role blends after-school childcare with family assistant responsibilities during school hours. The family values someone organized, warm, and able to respect the parents’ wish to remain actively involved with their children.
The ideal candidate is equally comfortable managing multiple kids’ schedules and engaging them in a creative and active way, as they are running errands, assisting with home organization, and supporting household logistics. The family has one small elderly dog, so occasional light pet help may be needed.
Sample Schedule
The schedule below is just an example. The family is looking for someone to help with about 8 hours per week while children are in school with family assistant tasks, two afternoons/evenings per week while children are home, two early mornings per week, one weekday overnight, and several hours on one weekend day. Weekday scheduling will revolve around the family’s sports schedules, which change twice per year, as well as the candidate’s preference. Weekend scheduling also revolves around sports. Schedules will be set up with the candidate and agreed on in advance.
Monday: 2PM–9PM
Wednesday: 2PM–9PM, then overnight until Thursday
Thursday: 7AM–2PM
Friday: 7AM–10AM
Saturday or Sunday (candidate’s preference): minimum 6–8 hours (set in advance, based on sports schedules)
One overnight per week is required
One weekend shift required
Occasional travel (5–10 day trips, passport ready)
Responsibilities
School pick-ups/drop-offs and driving to activities (clean driving record required)
Homework help, especially with twins needing extra support
Engaging, age-appropriate play and activities (especially active play with 7-year-old son)
Coordinating playdates, planning outings, and supporting extracurriculars
Household/family assistant tasks: errands, returns, ordering gifts, managing school communication, inbox monitoring, scheduling, organization, light computer work
Grocery shopping and light meal prep as needed (family values healthy, balanced meals; housekeepers and mom also cook)
Shared responsibilities with mom, while taking initiative and working independently
Qualifications
Strong organizational skills; able to manage multiple priorities independently
Calm, patient, warm, measured presence; quiet authority works wonders in our chaotic household
Respectful, firm yet gentle approach with children
Able to keep kids off screens and engage them actively and creatively
Flexible, adaptable disposition
Confident swimmer (required); skiing a plus, but not required
Teaching or tutoring background highly valued
Open to travel
