Description
The Education and Labor Cabinet's Department of Disability Determination Services Programs (DDDSP) assists anddetermines eligibility for Social Security Administration Disability benefits for the citizens in theCommonwealth of Kentucky.
We are seeking a Disability Adjudicator I in the Medical Review Team Section of the Independent WorkloadBranch to participate in a formal agency training program and provide closely supervised adjudication forSocial Security Administration disability applicants.
Responsibilities and Duties include but are not limited to: Under the guidance of the disability trainer, then immediate supervisor, learn the Social Security Administration Disability program; learn to manage a caseload of disability claims, the workflow of case processing and resources available; learn to determine eligibility for disability benefits; verify information then request, obtain, and evaluate medical evidence; prepare written decisions. Research medical and vocational issues; request assistance from in-house medical consultants, vocational specialists, supervisor and case consultant. Develop interviewing skills for contact with claimants, medical, professional, and legal authorities. Answer inquiries from claimants, representatives, Social Security offices, and others requesting information. The ideal candidate must demonstrate:
Good organizational skills Strong verbal and written communication skills Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously Ability to follow through on caseload deadlines and use planning and problem-solving abilities. This position will have access to confidential and sensitive information. The successful candidate will berequired to ensure the safeguarding and security of all confidential and sensitive information and will berequired to complete trainings, sign acknowledgements, follow all policies and adhere to all statutes andrequirements pertaining to the safeguarding and security of confidential and sensitive information whileemployed and after employment ends.
The Education and Labor Cabinet (ELC) participates in E-Verify and will provide the federal government withyour Form I-9 information to confirm that you are authorized to work in the United States. ELC will only useE-Verify once you have accepted a job offer and completed the Form I-9.

Minimum Requirements
EDUCATION: Graduate of a college or university with a bachelor's degree.
EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, OR SKILLS: NONE
Substitute EDUCATION for EXPERIENCE: NONE
Substitute EXPERIENCE for EDUCATION: Experience in adjudicating Social Security Administration disability claims or administrative experience within an organization that adjudicates Social Security Administration disability claims will substitute for the required bachelor's degree on a year-for-year basis. Current or prior military experience will substitute for the required college on a year-for-year basis.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS (AGE, LICENSURE, REGULATION, ETC.): NONE
Working Conditions
Work is typically performed in an office setting. A 40-hour work week is required.
Probationary Period
This job has an initial and promotional probationary period of 12 months, except as provided in KRS 18A.111.
