Mid Level Acoustics Engineer
Serco District of Columbia, United States – join the dynamic Team Submarine program supporting the U.S. Navy’s VIRGINIA Class Submarine program office at Washington Navy Yard.
Responsibilities
Support PMS450 evaluation of proposed designs and arrangements.
Maintain expert‑level knowledge of ship specification sections and first‑tier references, interpreting technical requirements and verifying program compliance.
Review technical submittals, providing assessments of issues and recommendations, consolidating differing points of view and defining available options and their associated pros and cons.
Act as liaison with the “Red‑Box” TWHs and 08 for the systems under their cognizance.
Apply in‑depth knowledge of VACL submarine acoustic signature to minimize noise and increase survivability.
Assist SDMs/DSDMs/MAITs in de‑conflicting technical viewpoints and program constraints.
Co‑lead NAVSEA Ship’s Silencing Working Group, conducting NRP audits/ship checks to validate ships‑as‑built configuration.
Manage commitment updates/status and identify technical issues requiring resolution in the area.
Collaborate with SITs to facilitate technical issue resolution and review all design products and correspondence.
Serve as primary customer contact, regularly updating the program manager and technical lead.
Lead program review sessions with the customer to discuss cost, schedule and technical performance.
Provide acquisition management planning and execution support and leading technical discussions for project reviews.
Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Secret clearance and U.S. citizenship.
Bachelor’s degree in any engineering, math, physics, technical or related discipline with 7 years of experience.
Ability to work independently in accordance with SOPs or specifications without direction.
Strong teamwork, accountability, and responsibility orientation.
Willingness to work outside normal hours and absorb classified material as part of early training.
Comfortable across engineering disciplines (ship architecture, electrical, electronics, piping, structures, HVAC).
Excellent technical writing skills and detail orientation.
Up to 10% travel.
Additional Desired Skills and Experience
Active duty experience in the submarine service.
Experience with Navy acquisition and/or in‑service programs.
Recent experience in Team Submarine.
