General Purpose

The Retail Associate is responsible for ensuring our customers have a positive shopping experience. The Associate makes eye contact, smiles, and greets all customers in a courteous and friendly manner, treats fellow Associates with respect, follows company best practice standards, maintains a clean work area, and ensures proper merchandise presentation. The Associate may perform a range of functions in all store areas as business needs require and may be asked to perform additional tasks to help achieve customer service and operational goals.

Essential Functions

  • Understands that safety is the number one priority and practices safe behaviors in everything they do.
  • Maintains a high level of awareness on the sales floor to create a safe and secure shopping environment; keeps egress to emergency exits clear and reports unsafe conditions to Store Leadership.
  • Treats all customers and associates with respect and courtesy; is friendly and professional at all times.
  • Assists customers as needed; is register-trained, helps with merchandise, and answers questions in a polite and knowledgeable manner. Greets customers and thanks them at the register.
  • Provides prompt responses to customers; responds to service calls and resolves issues with guidance from Store Leadership when needed.
  • Represents and supports the Ross brand at all times.
  • Performs cleaning tasks and restocks as needed to maintain a neat store and well-maintained team areas.
  • Maintains a professional appearance and adheres to the company dress code.
  • Performs daily sizing and recovery to ensure a neat, clean, and organized store that is merchandised to standards.
  • Expedites newly received merchandise to the sales floor and merchandises items per monthly presentation guidelines.
  • Understands the Loss Prevention program and merchandise protection standards.
  • Safeguards confidential information, cash and credit card information, and merchandise.
  • Follows MOS policies and notifies leadership for review and approval of disposals.
  • Follows policies concerning cash, checks, card transactions, and refunds; maintains accuracy in handling tenders.
  • Demonstrates urgency to perform duties efficiently while following store best practices.

Qualifications And Special Skills Required

  • Effectively communicate with Customers, Associates and Store Leadership in a friendly, respectful manner.
  • Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations commonly used in retail environments.

Physical Requirements/Ada

  • Ability to use all store equipment, including PDTs, registers and PCs as required.
  • Ability to stand, walk, and move around the store up to 100% of working time.
  • Ability to bend, squat, kneel, climb, carry, reach, and stoop.
  • Ability to push, pull and lift more than 25 pounds; some assignments may require more than 20 pounds for stockroom shifts.
  • Ability to use janitorial equipment, rolling racks, ladders and other assigned supplies.
