General Purpose

The Retail Associate is responsible for ensuring customers have a positive shopping experience. You will: make eye contact, smile, greet customers in a courteous and friendly manner, treat fellow Associates with respect, follow company standards, maintain a clean work area, and ensure proper merchandise presentation. You may perform a range of tasks in all areas of the store as business needs require.

Essential Functions

  • Safety is the number one priority; practice safe behaviors at all times.
  • Maintain awareness on the sales floor to create a safe shopping environment; keep egress clear and report unsafe conditions to Store Leadership.
  • Treat customers and Associates with respect and courtesy; recognize fellow Associates through company programs.
  • Assist Customers; be register-trained, help with merchandise, answer questions politely and knowledgeably; greet Customers throughout the store and say thank you at checkout.
  • Provide prompt and efficient responses to Customers; respond to service calls immediately; escalate as needed.
  • Represent and support the Company brand at all times.
  • Perform cleaning tasks (sweeping, mopping, dusting, wiping counters and mirrors, restocking restrooms) to maintain store areas.
  • Maintain a professional appearance and follow the dress code.
  • Perform daily sizing and recovery to keep the store neat, clean, and merchandised to standards.
  • Expedite newly received merchandise to the sales floor and merchandise items per guidelines; maintain product knowledge across departments to assist Customers.
  • Understand Loss Prevention and merchandise protection standards.
  • Safeguard confidential information, cash, and merchandise; demonstrate integrity and honesty as a Ross representative.
  • Follow MOS policies and proper processing of MOS merchandise; notify Leadership for disposal review and approval.
  • Follow policies for cash, check, charge card, and refund transactions; maintain accuracy with tenders.
  • Demonstrate urgency to perform duties efficiently and minimize steps in workflow.

Qualifications and Special Skills

  • Effectively communicate with Customers, Associates and Store Leadership in a friendly, respectful manner.
  • Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations used in retail.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to use all store equipment, including PDAs, registers, and PCs as required.
  • Ability to stand, walk, and move around the store up to 100% of working time.
  • Ability to bend, squat, kneel, climb, reach, and stoop; lift up to 25 pounds regularly, more than 25 pounds occasionally.
  • Ability to use janitorial equipment, rolling racks, ladders, and other supplies.
  • Stockroom shifts may require pushing, pulling and lifting up to 20 pounds.

The base pay range for this role is $20.76 - $21.26 per hour. This range depends on factors such as experience, skills, qualifications, location, and position. Benefits include a broad package of health, life, and financial programs; eligibility for additional benefits varies by employment status and location.
