General Purpose

The Retail Associate is responsible for ensuring customers have a positive shopping experience. The Associate greets customers, follows company standards, maintains a clean work area, and ensures proper merchandise presentation. The role may require performing a range of functions in all areas of the store as business needs require.

Essential Functions

  • Maintains safety as the priority; practices safe behaviors on the sales floor.
  • Maintains a clutter-free, clear egress to emergency exits and reports unsafe conditions to Store Leadership.
  • Treats customers and associates with respect and courtesy; greets customers and thanks them at transactions.
  • Assists customers; is register-trained, helps with merchandise, and answers questions in a polite, knowledgeable manner.
  • Provides prompt, courteous responses to customer service needs and escalates to Store Leadership when needed.
  • Represents and supports the Ross brand at all times.
  • Performs cleaning tasks to maintain store areas and replenish restroom supplies.
  • Maintains professional appearance and adheres to dress code.
  • Performs daily sizing and recovery to keep the store neat and merchandised to standards.
  • Expedites newly received merchandise to the sales floor and complies with monthly presentation guidelines.
  • Understands Loss Prevention programs and merchandise protection standards.
  • Safeguards confidential information, cash, and merchandise.
  • Follows MOS policies and proper processing of disposals as needed.
  • Follows cash handling, refunds, and offline procedures with accuracy and position awareness.
  • Demonstrates a sense of urgency to maximize productivity and minimize unnecessary steps.

Qualifications And Special Skills Required

  • Effectively communicate with Customers, Associates and Store Leadership in a friendly, respectful manner.
  • Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations commonly used in retail environments.

Physical Requirements/Ada

  • Ability to use all store equipment, including PDTs, registers, and PCs as required.
  • Ability to stand, walk, and move around the store up to 100% of working time.
  • Ability to bend, squat, kneel, climb, carry, reach, and stoop.
  • Ability to occasionally push, pull and lift more than 25 pounds.
  • Ability to use janitorial equipment and ladders as needed.
  • Stockroom shifts may require pushing, pulling and lifting more than 20 pounds.

The base pay range for this role is $16.50 - $17.00 per hour. The range is dependent on factors including experience, skills, qualifications, and location. This range is one component of total compensation. Other rewards vary by position and location.
