Overview

The North Carolina Museum of Art is seeking an enthusiastic team member to join our organization. The Retail Experience Associate is the primary point of contact for visitors, playing a crucial role in creating a positive and welcoming atmosphere. This position primarily works in the Museum’s retail spaces, greeting visitors and providing accurate information about exhibitions, galleries, the Museum Park, and Museum stores.

Key Responsibilities

  • Help manage and maintain retail spaces at the Museum, creating welcoming, interactive visitor experiences aligned with the Museum’s mission and retail goals.
  • Integrate welcoming and accessibility considerations into all visitor-facing initiatives and programs.
  • Support the Visitor Experience team, including staffing and operations at key hospitality points.
  • Assist with merchandising strategies, product design, and inventory initiatives.
  • Partner with artists and other vendors to build community partnerships that can enhance offerings in the retail stores.
  • Manage database of contact information, recording relevant statistics and survey data.

Position/Physical Requirements

  • Typical work schedule is Wednesday – Sunday, 9:00am–5:30pm, 40 hours.

Qualifications

High school diploma or General Educational Development (GED) diploma; two years of related administrative experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Preferred Experience

  • Demonstrated experience working in retail.
  • Demonstrated experience processing sales transactions accurately and/or efficiently.
  • Demonstrated experience interacting with visitors and/or providing customer service.

The North Carolina Museum of Art is a division of the Department of Natural and Cultural Resources. The statutory purpose of the museum is to acquire, preserve, and exhibit works of art for education and enjoyment, and to conduct programs of education, research, and publication designed to encourage interest in and appreciation of art. The state’s art collection spans more than 5,000 years, and the museum campus spans 164 acres, making it one of the premier art museums in the Southeast. The park includes facilities such as two main museum buildings, a large outdoor performing arts facility, parking, bike trails, and greenways.
