Overview

We are seeking a talented individual to join our Marsh & McLennan Agency team at Marsh McLennan. This role will be based in Urbandale and offers a hybrid work arrangement, requiring a minimum of three days per week in the office.

As an Accountant – MMA Accounting Operations, you will play a key role in managing and analyzing financial data, ensuring accurate and timely closing of books, and maintaining compliance with regulatory standards. In this role, you will analyze and reconcile accounts, prepare insightful reports, and communicate key findings to senior leadership. Your expertise will also help shape process improvements, mentor team members, and strengthen our overall financial reporting excellence.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare, review, and approve journal entries, consolidated statements, and client account reconciliations while analyzing and maintaining general ledger accounts
  • Research accounting policies or reporting issues, prepare position papers and disclosures, and reconcile financial statements to supporting information
  • Prepare and analyze revenue and expense reports, coordinate revenue and expense accruals, and ensure timely and accurate monthly and quarterly close
  • Perform variation and trend analysis for key general ledger accounts carriers, clients, administrative systems, financial statement line items, and related disclosures, including management\'s discussion and analysis, with findings potentially presented to senior management
  • Review internal processes and procedures, provide recommendations to management for improvement, and assist in leading the implementation of process changes and projects
  • Verify the work of less experienced accountants and provide guidance, training, or functional advice to support their development
  • Ensure compliance with corporate policies, carrier agreements, SOX procedures, SSAE16 procedures tax regulations, local and US GAAP, and local statutory regulations (as applicable) regarding financial matters
  • Prepare ad hoc analyses as assigned

Qualifications

  • 3-5 years of professional experience in accounting or finance
  • Working knowledge of reconciliations and journal entries
  • Familiarity of accounting systems
  • Strong verbal/written communication skills and keen attention to detail
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Applications including advanced Excel knowledge
  • Strong financial and analytical skills; meticulous attention to detail
