Description

Perform a range of light clerical and accounting duties. Responsibilities may include typing, matching payments, reviewing purchase orders, preparing bank deposits, and performing routine financial calculations. Execute basic accounting functions that require knowledge of accounts payable, accounts receivable, and bank reconciliation. Additional responsibilities include responding to customer inquiries, resolving issues, and posting and verifying financial data to maintain accurate accounting records.

Position Overview

This contractor will be part of an Operational Accounting Management Team based in Syracuse, NY. The role supports monthly financial closing processes with a strong emphasis on balance sheet reconciliations and analysis. It also involves key inventory accounting processes and participation in cross-functional strategic projects that impact operational accounting activities.

Key Responsibilities

• Support the month-end financial statement closing process, including preparation of journal entries and assisting team members
• Prepare and maintain month-end account reconciliations
• Analyze key balance sheet accounts and reserves
• Support inventory accounting processes, including LIFO, PII (Profit-In-Inventory) eliminations, tariffs, consignment, E&O, physical inventories, and SNB (Shipped Not Billed)/warehouse cutoff accruals
• Assist with compliance activities, including SOX and internal/external audit support
• Contribute to testing and implementation of cross-functional strategic initiatives

Required Education & Experience

• Minimum 8 years of accounting experience
• SAP ECC6 experience required
• Experience with finished goods inventory accounting required

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting preferred
• Master’s degree in Accounting preferred
• CPA certification preferred
• Experience with HFM (Hyperion Financial Management)
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills with keen attention to detail
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Ability to work independently in a fast-paced and dynamic environment
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Access)
