One of Atrium’s valued clients, a growing technology start-up, is seeking a Senior Accountant to join their team based in Tampa, FL. This is an incredible opportunity for a Senior Accountant to be involved in a highly visible position interfacing with both Finance and Human Resources. The Senior Accountant must be technically strong, possess a strong understanding of HCM systems, payroll processing, and prepare financials following US GAAP.
Salary/Hourly Rate:
$95k - $120k DOEPosition Overview:
The Senior Accountant will be reporting directly to the Controller and primarily assisting in payroll processing (20%) and providing general assurance that accounting is accurate and books are closed (80%). This position will serve as the lead on all financial interfacing on payroll, payroll processing, and month-end close. The Senior Accountant will serve as a significant figure in the accounting process and be very hands-on in the implementation of a new HCM system.Responsibilities of the Senior Accountant:
- Payroll & Benefits Administration:
- Manage full-cycle payroll processing for multi-state employees, which includes wage garnishments, deductions (child support, IRS, etc.).
- Manage all benefits providers and ensure they are funded.
- Continually maintain all payroll records and set up new employees, which includes onboarding them into the HCM and timekeeping systems.
- Perform payroll and record benefits journal entries accurately for the month-end close.
- Ensure you maintain compliance with all federal, state, and local payroll regulations.
- Perform regular audits on financial, tax, and workers’ compensation.
- Accounting & Financial Operations:
- Perform monthly financial statement reconciliations to ensure all transactions are tied out.
- Support the month-end and year-end close processes.
- Manage the fixed asset process, which includes asset additions, disposals, and depreciation schedules.
- Assist with compiling documentation required for annual audits.
- Perform the full accounts payable cycle, including processing, vendor management, and performing check runs/ACH payments.
- Manage all travel and expenses, including troubleshooting Expensify.
- Maintain the 1099 year-end tax reporting and ensure accurate annual filing.
- Assist in documenting and creating SOPs to refine the accounts payable policy and procedure.
Required Experience/Skills for the Senior Accountant:
- 5 - 7+ years of relevant experience in payroll and accounting.
- Strong understanding of accrual accounting and GAAP.
- Proficiency in payroll, HCM/HRIS, and accounting systems (e.g., Paylocity, UKG Ready, NetSuite, Expensify).
- Hands-on experience with HCM system implementation.
- Demonstrates a high level of attention to detail, organization, and follow-up skills.
- Able to maintain confidential information and work with proprietary data.
- Team-oriented with a customer-service and excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Preferred Experience/Skills for the Senior Accountant:
- Multi-state payroll experience is preferred.
- Proficiency using UKG Ready and Expensify is preferred.
Education Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or an equivalent related business degree is required.
