Overview
A well-established national law firm is seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Staff Accountant to join its Finance Team. This role focuses on financial reporting, general ledger management, and supports several core accounting functions, including trust accounting and accounts payable operations.
As a key member of the Finance Team, the Staff Accountant will work closely with leadership and stakeholders to ensure accurate financial reporting, regulatory compliance, and operational efficiency.
Base pay range
$80,000.00/yr - $90,000.00/yr
Job Title: Staff Accountant
Location: New Jersey (Hybrid Schedule Available)
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain and manage the general ledger, ensuring accurate and timely journal entries and account reconciliations.
- Prepare and analyze financial reports, dashboards, and periodic summaries for internal stakeholders.
- Process journal entries, including payroll, accruals, and adjustments.
- Perform bank reconciliations for firm and trust accounts.
- Conduct GL account analysis and investigate variances.
- Assist with trust accounting operations, including reconciliations and transaction processing.
- Support accounts payable functions, including review and processing of expenses, client costs, AMEX charges, and vendor invoices.
- Manage cash receipt deposits, including wires, ACHs, and credit card transactions.
- Participate in month-end and year-end closings.
- Maintain organized financial documentation and audit trails.
- Assist with financial system maintenance and handle ad hoc reporting or system tasks.
- Respond to internal and external inquiries related to billing, reporting, and payment status.
- Clearly communicate financial information to team members, vendors, and clients.
Qualifications and Skills
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- Proven experience in financial reporting and general ledger operations.
- Strong analytical skills and the ability to identify and resolve accounting issues.
- High attention to detail and a commitment to accuracy and quality.
- Advanced Excel skills (pivot tables, formulas, VLOOKUPs, data validation).
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (PowerPoint, Word, Excel, Access).
- Strong organizational and multitasking skills.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills.
- Self-motivated, proactive, and able to work both independently and collaboratively.
- Prior experience in a law firm or professional services environment preferred.
- Familiarity with Aderant Expert/Elite 3E, Chrome River (Emburse Enterprise), or similar accounting systems is a plus.
- Salary: $80,000–$90,000, based on experience.
