Position Summary

The Security Guard 2 works under the supervision of the watch sergeant (Police Officer 2 or senior police officer on duty). The Security Guard 2 performs physical security, parking enforcement, general patrol duties, and radio/telephone dispatching in support of Police Officers and other Public Safety staff.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

1. Patrol campus, report suspected crimes, accidents or activities of a questionable/suspicious nature.
2. Radio communications including serving as dispatcher when required.
3. Parking enforcement and traffic control for designated special events.
4. Secure, inspect, and open university buildings and facilities.
5. Maintain records and prepare reports.
6. Testify in court or legal proceedings as necessary.
7. Answer and reset fire alarms.
8. Operate and Monitor Emergency Management and Security System.
9. Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

2. Ability to interact in an effective and appropriate manner with diverse populations, the University community and the public.
3. Ability to detect and correct grammatical and spelling errors in written correspondence.

5. Ability to operate a vehicle.
6. Ability to react quickly and calmly in emergency situations.
7. Ability to pursue suspects/suspicious individuals on foot, through University buildings and grounds.
8. Ability to run, jump, and physically restrain an individual as needed.
9. Ability to perform duties on bicycle, vehicle or on foot.
10. Ability to work any shift.
11. Ability to interview people and ascertain facts.
12. Ability to communicate effectively in person, by radio and telephone, especially with students and visitors to the campus.

1. Ability to run, jump, and physically restrain an individual as needed.
2. Ability to perform duties on bicycle, vehicle or on foot.

Required Minimum Qualifications

1. High school graduate or equivalent.
2. Must be 18 years of age or older.
3. Must be a U.S. citizen.
4. Must have no criminal convictions.
5. Must pass a psychological examination.
6. Must pass a thorough background investigation conducted by the University.
7. Must pass a physical examination by a licensed physician.
8. Valid driver’s license.
9. Must have a telephone for emergency recall by department.
10. An official transcript (if applicable) and names, addresses, and phone numbers of three (3) references will be required for the successful applicant.
11. Essential employee will be required to report to work during emergency or disaster situations.
