Commercial Electrician Skills

  • Trained and licensed professional specializing in the installation, maintenance, and repair of electrical systems in commercial buildings, such as office parks, shopping centers, schools, hospitals, hotels, and industrial facilities.

Job Responsibilities

  • To ensure that all electrical systems are safe, efficient, and compliant with local, state, and codes and regulations.
  • To install, maintaining and repairing electrical systems and components like lighting fixtures, power outlets, electrical panels, transformers, generators, and control systems.
  • Installing conduit systems, pulling wires through conduits, terminating electrical panels, and setting up emergency lighting and lighting control systems.
  • Perform preventative maintenance, respond to service calls, and conduct inspections to identify potential hazards or defects.
  • Responsible for diagnosing and troubleshooting electrical problems using test equipment such as volt meters, meggers, and circuit tracers.
  • Should be able to read and interpret technical drawings, blueprints, schematics, and electrical code specifications to understand project requirements and ensure accurate installation and compliance.
  • Knowledge of hand and power tools, including wire cutters, saws, ladders, and scaffolds, often working in confined spaces or at heights.
  • The work can be physically demanding, requiring the ability to lift heavy equipment, work outdoors in various weather conditions, and spend long hours on the job site.
  • Have the ability to collaborate with other tradespeople, contractors, and project managers to complete projects on time.

Education

  • Needed is a high school diploma or GED, followed by completion of a vocational school program or an apprenticeship with a master electrician.
  • Journeyman Electrician must have passed a state journeyman electrician exam to become licensed and considered a Journeyman Level.
  • OSHA-10 is required
