Overview
Flex-N-Gate is seeking a Human Resources Manager to provide tactical and strategic HR leadership at the plant level. The role uses principles of human resource management to contribute to the success of short- and long-term business goals, demonstrates expertise in solving problems and executing objectives, and partners with the plant to support the implementation of company-wide HR projects.
Job Duties
- Understands and interprets HR policies and procedures, explains to associates the company and governmental rules, regulations, and procedures, and the need for compliance.
- Counsels management in applying effective associate relations policies and practices; verifies adherence to wages, hours, and working conditions.
- Coordinates and oversees workplace safety initiatives in alignment with Michigan OSHA requirements, including training, inspections, and incident reporting.
- Partners with operations and safety teams to ensure compliance with company policies and state regulations, promoting a safe and healthy work environment.
- Recommends revisions or drafts of new associate relations policies and procedures; presents to the HR Director for approval.
- Screens, counsels, and recommends associates for participation in training; coordinates associate participation in established training courses offered through community schools, professional service providers, and other vendors.
- Recruits and hires all levels of personnel for company needs and establishes recruitment and hiring procedures; monitors staffing requirements for all departments.
- Manages preparation of associate separation notices and related documentation; conducts exit interviews to determine reasons behind all separations.
- Prepares reports and recommends procedures to reduce absenteeism and turnover.
- Manages new associate orientation to foster a positive attitude toward company goals.
- Represents the organization at personnel-related hearings and investigations and acts as the company representative in legal proceedings (EEOC, NLRB, Arbitrations).
- Oversees workers’ compensation program to minimize costs and coordinate with the insurance carrier.
- Participates in problem solving and continuous improvement activities.
- Provides industrial relations and public relations services for the facility as a HR specialist.
- Ensures new employees receive necessary training; ensures all employees receive necessary training.
- Maintains training records and files.
- Directly supervises HR department staff; responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, training, planning, assigning, and directing work; performance appraisals; rewarding and disciplining associates; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
- Monthly reporting of departmental metrics in SharePoint.
- Responsible for employee benefits administration, including health, dental, vision, life and disability insurance; 401(k); unemployment compensation; and workers’ compensation.
- Ensures junior HR professionals are delivering customer-oriented service by training, supervising and coordinating work activities.
- Performs additional assignments per supervisor’s direction.
Requirements
- University Degree in related field
- Community College diploma in related field
- Five years’ experience in Human Resources
- Ability to read, analyzes, and interprets professional journals, financial reports, government regulations, and legal documents
- Ability to respond effectively to sensitive inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, associates, and/or managers
- Strong knowledge of Michigan employment and safety regulations with proven experience managing compliance in a manufacturing or similar environment
- Strong organizational skills
- Strong communication skills (verbal and written)
- Proficiency with database applications and administration systems, specifically Microsoft Office
- Ability to work effectively alone and prioritize
- Highly motivated, service and team-oriented with attention to detail
- Ability to participate in developing procedures manuals and handbooks
- Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups and associates
- Enthusiasm for challenge and new initiatives
