Overview

At the start of each shift, the Barista is responsible for counting and setting up their cash register drawer following the DCH Cash Handling Policy. This position oversees the day-to-day operations of the Starbucks coffee kiosk. The Barista prepares all Starbucks beverages to order, following precise formulas from the Starbucks manual. Responsibilities also include stocking, maintaining, and rotating all items sold in the kiosk, such as drinks, sandwiches, desserts, cups, straws, and merchandise. All sales must be accurately entered into the POS system, and a receipt provided to each customer. Maintaining a clean, sanitized, and organized work station is essential for compliance with health inspections. The role involves inventory management, including ordering and storing supplies, precise cash handling, and completing all logs and forms according to DCH policies. Additional duties include restocking, serving food, cleaning equipment, and general cleaning of the service and dining areas, depending on the campus. The position requires strong multitasking and communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • This position is currently staffed as a Monday – Friday role, subject to change based on departmental needs.
  • Adhere to DCH Behavioral Standards by creating positive relationships with patients, families, coworkers, and customers, fostering a positive work environment.
  • Assist in counting all monies at the start of each shift and sign off on the cash drawer accuracy.
  • Enter all customer transactions into the CBORD POS system, process payments, and hand receipts to customers.
  • Secure all cash and sales records appropriately.
  • Maintain cleanliness of the work area and assist with cleaning in dining and servery areas, especially at the Northport Campus.
  • Restock cafeteria items as needed, particularly at Northport Campus.
  • Assist cafeteria cashier during Starbucks hours by entering overflow transactions to prevent lines at Northport Campus.
  • Ensure all signage is current and accurate.
  • Prepare for seasonal or promotional beverages, possessing the knowledge to make them.
  • At shift end, count down cash and reconcile receipts with a supervisor, completing all required logs and forms.

Qualifications

High School diploma or equivalent preferred. Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English, with good counting skills. Experience as a cashier or in a coffee shop is preferred. Must accurately handle money, follow recipes, and operate a POS system. Excellent communication and customer service skills are required. ServSafe certification with a minimum score of 75% is preferred but not mandatory.
