The Presidio of Monterey Health Clinic is seeking Dental Assistants to join our growing team!
The Presidio of Monterey is home of the Defense Language Institute Foreign Language Center. Located in picturesque Monterey County on California's Central Coast, approximately 85 miles south of San Francisco and 50 miles from Silicon Valley. With historic ties to the Spanish colonial era, the Presidio of Monterey as a U.S. military installation dates to July 7, 1846, when Commodore Sloat landed his troops unopposed in Monterey during the Mexican-American War and first raised the U.S. flag in Alta California, claiming its territories for the United States. Monterey is the last Presidio in California to have an active military installation.

Responsibilities
Duties
- Perform intra-oral procedures such as taking preliminary impressions for study models, removing sutures, and placing and removing rubber dams, perio-packs, and matrix bands and wedges.
- Instruct patients on proper dental techniques, care of appliances, and causes of dental decay.
- Operate dental X-ray equipment to take intra and extra-oral radiographs.
- Obtain and record patients' medical histories and route patients for tests and services.
- Maintain dental equipment in a clean and functional condition, and manage supplies.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications

Applicants must meet education and/or experience requirements, including volunteer work. Your resume must clearly describe relevant experience. Transcripts are required if qualifying through education. This position can be filled at GS-03, GS-04, or GS-05 levels with a career ladder promotion to GS-05. Duties reflect the full performance at GS-05; lower grades involve developmental duties under supervision.
Basic Requirements for GS-0681-03/04/05 Dental Assistant
- Radiology Certification meeting standards in 42 CFR Part 75, through accredited educational programs and certification as a radiographer, or equivalent experience and certification.
For GS-03
- Six months of general experience or education in a relevant field.
- OR successful completion of a one-year dental assistant or hygiene program, or approved practical nurse training.
- OR a combination of education and experience totaling at least 100% of requirements.
For GS-04
- Six months of general experience and six months of specialized experience in dental assisting, or completion of a two-year dental assistant or hygiene program, or a combination totaling 100% of requirements.
For GS-05
- One year of specialized experience supporting dental procedures, or a full four-year dental assistant or hygiene program with relevant coursework, or a combination totaling 100% of requirements.
