Job Purpose
As a Heavy Duty Machinery Mechanic, you will perform repairs and maintenance on refuse vehicles and heavy machinery, including vehicle refuse bodies and control systems, air brake systems, suspension, steering, hydraulics, electrical, engine work, HVAC components, drivetrain, and chassis components.
Duties and Responsibilities
Your responsibilities will include:
- Maintaining vehicles and equipment
- Engine repairs and maintenance
- Welding and fabrication
- Scanning trucks and troubleshooting mechanical issues using electronic tools
- Electrical repairs
- Assisting with DOT inspections
- Oil changes and greasing trucks/equipment
- Replacing tires as needed
- Preventative maintenance to minimize downtime
- Performing road service calls safely
- Troubleshooting emissions issues
- Problem solving
- Completing work orders and reporting to Maintenance Supervisor
The Successful Candidate Profile Includes
Candidates should have:
- A Commercial Driver's License (preferred but not required)
- Understanding of work orders and labor standards
- Experience with maintenance on refuse trucks and heavy machinery
- ASE Certifications (preferred but not required)
- Minimum two years of experience as a heavy-duty technician
- Ability to perform inspections of brakes, drivetrain, emissions, hydraulics, transmissions, engine, steering, and suspension
