Job Purpose
As a Heavy Duty Machinery Mechanic, you will perform repairs and maintenance on refuse vehicles and heavy machinery, including but not limited to: vehicle refuse bodies and control systems, air brake systems, suspension, steering, hydraulics, electrical, engine work, HVAC, drivetrain, and chassis components.
Duties and Responsibilities
Duties include but are not limited to:
- Maintaining vehicles and equipment
- Engine repair and maintenance
- Welding and fabrication
- Scanning trucks and troubleshooting mechanical issues with electronic tools
- Electrical repairs
- Assisting with DOT inspections
- Oil changes and greasing trucks/equipment
- Replacing tires as needed
- Performing preventative maintenance to minimize downtime
- Executing road service calls safely to ensure equipment is returned in a safe manner
- Troubleshooting emissions issues
- Problem solving
- Completing work orders and reporting to Maintenance Supervisor
The Successful Candidate Profile Includes
- Commercial Driver's License is a plus but not required
- Understanding work orders and labor time standards
- Experience with maintenance on refuse trucks and heavy machinery
- ASE Certifications are a plus but not required
- Minimum two years of experience as a heavy-duty technician
- Ability to perform basic inspections of brakes, drivetrain, emissions, hydraulics, transmissions, engine, steering, and suspension
