The Division of Correctional Health Services (CHS)
of New York City Health + Hospitals (H+H), responsible for delivering medical care, mental health care, and discharge planning in the jail system. The service provides comprehensive treatment modalities, including specialty housing, psychiatric services, arts programming, DBT training, clinics, substance use treatment, re-entry services, and partnerships with training institutions. General Overview
The Patient Care Associate assists licensed nurses and medical staff by performing venipuncture, finger-sticks, HIV testing, emergency response, clerical duties, and patient care activities. They observe patients' mental, emotional, and physical conditions, reporting changes to nursing staff, under supervision. Responsibilities
Administers total and partial care, assists with hygiene, transfers patients, and positions patients for therapy. Prepares patients for meals, assists with feeding, and manages patient admissions and transfers. Performs vital signs, EKGs, dressing changes, and maintains medical records. Assists with treatments, maintains supplies, and ensures safety and cleanliness. Supports nursing follow-ups, documents encounters, and maintains competency in skills. Activities
Performs HIV testing, counseling, data entry, and faxing of results. Performs EKGs, follow-ups, admission processing, and venipunctures. Maintenance of Unit
Cleans equipment, stocks supplies, maintains cleanliness, and enforces security. Human Relations Skills
Supports team, maintains professionalism, communicates effectively, and respects individuals. Working Conditions
Includes shift work across days, nights, weekends, and holidays. Requires standing, patient handling, and exposure to hazards and uncooperative patients. Physical Demands
Lifting up to 50-100 pounds, standing, fine motor skills, and visual acuity required. Qualifications
High School Diploma or GED, EKG and Phlebotomy Certificates, BCLS, infection control, and PCA/CNA certifications. HIV counseling training preferred. Benefits
