Overview

The mission of The University of Texas M. D. Anderson Cancer Center is to eliminate cancer in Texas, the nation, and the world through outstanding programs that integrate patient care, research and prevention, and through education for undergraduate and graduate students, trainees, professionals, employees and the public. The Director of Capital Projects works with the Executive Director to formulate strategies, set priorities, goals, and objectives to implement long-term capital projects in the range of $5 million up to $30 million. Coordinates with other members of facilities management to support the multidisciplinary mission of the institution and provides an efficient communication channel for coordination, long range planning and problem resolution. The role is responsible for providing strategic leadership in overseeing project alignment with institutional goals and ensuring hospital spaces are fully operational and ready for patient care through effective planning and execution of space readiness initiatives. This includes wayfinding signage, activation planning, transition, move management, and medical equipment services. The role requires cross-functional collaboration with internal teams, external vendors, clinical stakeholders, and construction partners to ensure timely and efficient transitions into new or renovated healthcare spaces. Activation Leadership:

Provide strategic leadership in overseeing project alignment with institutional goals and ensuring hospital spaces are fully operational and ready for patient care through space readiness initiatives. Includes activation planning, transition, move management, and medical equipment services. Oversight of personnel and IDIQ program contracts. Wayfinding Leadership:

Oversee project alignment for wayfinding, interior and exterior donor signage, and corresponding Institutional policies and procedures. Ensure regulatory compliance. Personnel Management:

Coordinate with Facilities Directors to support the multidisciplinary mission and provide efficient long-range planning and problem resolution communications. Serve on institutional committees as liaison for Facilities Management services. Supervise personnel, conduct performance evaluations, handle personnel issues, review and recommend promotions, salary actions, and resource allocation. Create and implement changes to meet departmental, divisional, or institutional goals. Administrative/Resource Management:

Establish staffing plans, workload assessment, annual goals, policies and procedures, position descriptions and expectations, staff communications, and hiring processes. Requirements

Education: Bachelor's degree in construction, design, engineering, or related field. Preferred Education: Master's Level Degree Preferred Certification: Registered Professional Engineer (P.E.), State of Texas, or Registered Architect, State of Texas. Experience: Five years of experience in facilities project management of healthcare, academic, and/or research facilities. Five years of management experience. Preferred Experience: Ten years of experience in facilities project management of healthcare, academic, and/or research facilities.
