ABOUT THE ROLE
The Teen & Family Programs Manager engages intergenerational audiences—including early learners, school-aged children, and teens—through the development, implementation, and promotion of dynamic programming across all SAM sites. This role provides leadership and direction for a team of five direct reports, including the Family Program Manager, Youth Program Manager, SAM Camp Senior Counselors, SAM Camp Counselors, and Teaching Artists. You’ll play a key role in advancing SAM’s education mission by: Overseeing the design and facilitation of workshops, festivals, camps, early learner programs, and teen initiatives that connect audiences to SAM’s collections and exhibitions. Leading partnerships with educators, teaching artists, curators, and community stakeholders to ensure programming is developmentally appropriate and aligned with SAM’s mission. Collaborating across departments to plan intergenerational museum spaces, align programming with exhibitions, and coordinate logistics. Cultivating meaningful relationships with diverse communities and organizations that serve youth and families. Managing the teen and family programs budget, tracking revenue/expenses, and supporting fundraising proposals and grant reporting. Supervising and mentoring program staff, summer camp teams, and teaching artists, fostering a collaborative and growth-oriented environment. Evaluating program outcomes and maintaining accurate statistics on participation and impact. Partnering with Marketing to promote teen and family programs and highlight educational initiatives. Contributing to divisional strategic planning and departmental goals for equity, inclusion, and long-term growth. FLSA STATUS:
Full Time, Exempt COMPENSATION:
$89,300 – $94,000 annually
WORK SCHEDULE
This role is scheduled for
standard business hours, Monday–Friday , but requires flexibility to support early mornings, evenings, and weekends for events and programs. This position is
hybrid eligible
under SAM’s current policy (subject to change).

WE ARE LOOKING FOR
A creative, collaborative educator and manager who thrives at building connections across youth, families, and intergenerational audiences. You’ll bring: Required Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in education, art education, curriculum & instruction, museum studies, or related field (or equivalent experience). At least 5 years of classroom teaching, museum education, or arts/culture-based teaching experience, including 3 years in a management role. Strong knowledge of youth development models, informal learning practices, and educational pedagogy. Demonstrated ability to engage diverse populations of youth and families. Strong supervisory skills with experience mentoring teams and managing multiple projects simultaneously. Excellent communication skills with the ability to tailor messaging to different audiences. Sound judgment, strong problem-solving, and time management skills. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, Zoom, Asana, Slack, and online research. Ability to pass and maintain a security background check. Preferred Qualifications Master’s degree in a related field. Four years of supervisory experience in a museum or similar environment. Expertise in learning theories and informal education practices.
WORK CONDITIONS
Exposure: Primarily indoors in climate-controlled environments, with some outdoor and offsite programming. Stationary Work: About 80% at a desk; 20% moving through workspaces or standing for extended periods during events. Communication: Clear and effective communication in English with staff, partners, and the public is essential. Office Work: Regular use of computers, phones, and office equipment required.
