Overview

A fast-growing battery technology company designing and scaling next-generation cell and electrolyte products for commercial and government customers. They are looking for an experienced engineering leader to own product-focused cell and electrolyte development and the testing/qualification programs that sit between R&D and customers.

This is a hands-on, cross-functional role: you’ll lead a team that moves chemistry from lab prototypes into manufacturable, customer-ready cells — shipping validated product and driving NPI execution end-to-end. You’ll partner closely with R&D, manufacturing, operations, and sales to meet technical specs, timelines, and quality targets.

Responsibilities

  • Lead engineering efforts across product development, electrochemical and safety testing, shipment qualification, and customer technical support.
  • Own product-focused cell and electrolyte development and the associated testing/qualification programs between R&D and customers.
  • Manage a team to move chemistry from lab prototypes to manufacturable, customer-ready cells and drive NPI execution end-to-end.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to meet technical specifications, timelines, and quality targets.

Qualifications

  • B.S. in Engineering, Chemistry, Physics, or related technical discipline.
  • 10+ years in battery engineering, cell development, or energy storage product engineering — hands-on experience with liquid electrolytes or production cell engineering (pouch/coin/prismatic) required.
  • Proven people manager with experience building and scaling technical teams (must).
  • Demonstrated track record of delivering products through NPI and driving cross-functional execution between R&D and customers.
  • Strong technical knowledge of electrochemical testing, battery cyclers, safety testing, and lab instrumentation.
  • Experience with DOE, data analysis, and data-driven product decisions.
  • Experience interfacing with customers and presenting technical material to varied audiences.
  • Proficiency with project management and collaboration tools (e.g., Asana, Notion, Trello) and data analysis tools (Python, JMP or equivalent).
  • M.S. or Ph.D. in a relevant discipline.
  • Experience in product scale-up environments.
  • Direct experience with electrolyte formulation, polymer electrolytes, or liquid electrolyte systems.
  • Familiarity with regulatory and shipping standards for batteries (UN 38.3, IATA/ADR).
  • Background in customer-facing technical roles or sales engineering.

Base pay & Benefits

Base pay range: $160,000.00/yr – $220,000.00/yr.

  • Equity / long-term incentive participation.
  • Full medical, dental, and vision coverage (company covers primary employee; dependent coverage subsidy available).
  • 401(k) with company match.
  • Paid parental leave and flexible return-to-work policy.
  • Generous PTO (15 days vacation + 10+ company holidays) and sick time.
  • Relocation assistance available for strong candidates.
