Overview
WDVA Cook 1, On-Call, Walla Walla Veterans Home US Department of Veterans Affairs. This on-call Cook 1 position at the Walla Walla Veterans Home serves resident Veterans by preparing meals that meet dietary needs in a safe, sanitary environment. We are accepting applications for on-call coverage to support meals for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Responsibilities
Prepare breakfast, lunch, and dinner meals. Prepare food for residents and, at times, staff and visitors. Ensure preferences and therapeutic diets are adhered to when reasonably possible. Utilize preparation activities and batch cooking techniques while minimizing waste. Monitor all food items for quality and report needs for recipe or production modifications. Ensure food items are kept safe by monitoring storage methods, temperatures, and cooling processes. Ensure reheating is completed per food handling regulations. Perform general cleaning and sanitation of work areas. Maintain accurate mealtime food temperature records, refrigerator and freezer temperatures, quality assurance records, production records, and prep sheets. Other duties as assigned within the scope of the position. Qualifications
Required:
A combination of education and professional experience may be considered on a year-for-year basis. Professional experience must be relevant to the position. High school diploma or GED equivalent. Valid Washington state food worker card (obtainable at the referenced site). Minimum of twelve (12) months of experience in large-scale food preparation or related coursework/military training; substitution applies month-for-month. If qualifying by coursework, attach transcripts. Ability to lift/push/pull frequently up to 50 lbs. and occasionally up to 70 lbs.; thorough knowledge of food sanitation and safety; proficient in reading, writing, and speaking English. Preferred/Desired:
Degree or certificate in culinary arts. ServSafe certification. Experience with geriatric populations or healthcare institutional settings. Ability to organize and prioritize multiple projects and meet deadlines; knowledge of therapeutic diet planning and sanitary methods of food handling. Valid driver's license. Special Requirements
Pass a DSHS BCCU Background Check prior to starting and every two years per WDVA policy. Comply with annual Tuberculin Screening and related safety requirements. Ability to wear appropriate PPE and perform duties in accordance with safety standards. Must maintain regular and reliable attendance and be willing to work outreach events. Complete mandatory orientation and trainings; comply with WDVA policies and collective bargaining agreements as applicable. Must sign confidentiality statement and maintain valid Washington state food worker card. If travel is required, possess a valid unrestricted driver's license and be insured for state business use of a private vehicle. Applicants must have work authorization that does not require employer sponsorship for a visa now or in the future. Other Information
