$180,000 - $224,190 Description:

The Division of Public Safety at CU Boulder is now accepting applications for the Assistant Vice Chancellor for Security Services! This role reports to the Associate Vice Chancellor for the Division of Public Safety (AVCDPS) and serves on the DPS senior leadership team. The Division of Public Safety promotes a culture of ethics, integrity, and safety in alignment with CU Boulders commitment to operational excellence. This position supervises and provides senior leadership in four key areas including: Community Engagement Protective Services Security Officers Security Systems This role works closely with the AVCDPS, senior leadership, campus partners, external agencies, and other administrative offices on the Boulder campus. As a senior leader with broad responsibilities for campus safety, this individual will offer strategic guidance and serve as an inspiring leader on security issues. A successful incumbent will be a strategic and thoughtful leader, adept at building strong relationships and collaborating with leaders both within and outside the Division of Public Safety to assess security needs and identify effective solutions. They will integrate technological innovations into security service efforts, engaging in system and service planning to ensure long-term sustainability. Additionally, they will develop and enforce comprehensive policies and standards that uphold integrity and consistency across all aspects of campus security. Strategic Public Safety Operations Leadership and Planning: Serve on the AVCDPSs senior leadership team and assume responsibility for DPS in the absence of the AVCDPS. Collaborate with the AVCDPS and Public Safety leadership to assess current security needs and identify any gaps within the division. Explore and implement innovative solutions to enhance security services. Develop a 5-year strategic plan for security services, including a budget that aligns with Public Safety priorities. Prioritize and implement initiatives outlined in the strategic plan. Regularly evaluate progress and make adjustments as needed. Establish policies, standards, and procedures to ensure integrity and consistency in public safety operations. Stay informed of industry innovations and assess their potential for integration into divisional strategy. Supervision and Mentorship: Responsible for performance management, offering support and professional development opportunities. Align staff responsibilities with evolving divisional needs. Collaborate with other departments to ensure staff resources are effectively allocated to meet departmental objectives. DPS Leadership Partnership: Engage in open, collaborative discussions with peers across DPS. Work with campus partners to find opportunities for optimizing and expanding campus security services. Requirements: Masters or JD degree in public safety, public policy, or related field. A combination of education and relevant experience may substitute for the degree on a year-for-year basis. Six years of experience that includes progressively increasing responsibilities in areas of public safety and supervising professional staff. Qualifications: Strong communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills. Proven track record to build relationships and collaborate optimally. Ability to influence decisions and drive action in alignment with organizational priorities. Skilled in eliciting business requirements for public safety and developing solutions that meet those needs. Capable of directing, motivating, developing, and evaluating staff performance. Competent in budget planning, justification, and reconciliation. Willingness to stay informed about and enforce campus policies and standards related to hardware, software compliance, pricing, purchasing, and security standard processes. What We Would Like You to Have: In-depth knowledge of the national and regional landscape of public safety in higher education. Prior experience in a higher education environment. Active engagement with organizations focused on public safety. Proven success in delivering innovative technology solutions and implementing cost-saving strategies.
