Position Information Posting Number Posting Number SRGV8356 Working Title Working Title SENIOR ASSOCIATE DEAN OF STUDENT AFFAIRS AND ADMISSIONS Number of Vacancies Number of Vacancies 1 Location Location Edinburg, Texas Department Department School of Medicine / Student Affairs FTE FTE 1.0 FLSA FLSA Exempt Scope of Job Reporting to the School of Medicine Dean, the Senior Associate Dean for Student Affairs & Admissions supervises and directs the staff and budget of the programs under the Offices of Student Affairs and Admissions, and is responsible for implementing policies and programming to support medical student academic progress from admissions to graduation: including student academic support, student advising, the learning environment, career development, and student wellness initiatives. Description of Duties Leads student affairs programs in accordance with school policies, governmental regulations, and institutional accreditation requirements to ensure that programs align with the goals and objectives of the UTRGV School of Medicine and its medical education program. Oversees the staff and departmental budget of student affairs to implement programs that promote medical student academic progress, to include student counseling, career advising, mentoring, professionalism, and student wellness. Works collaboratively with medical students, faculty, staff, and senior leadership to foster a positive learning environment. This includes direct support and counsel to the Optimal Learning Environment Committee. Responsible for the development of policies and procedures and maintains a current student website for the student affairs programs. Oversees medical student events such as Orientation, Graduation, White coat ceremony, Match Day, and alumni relation activities. Provides support for student government/student organizations. Supervises the Assistant Dean of Student Affairs, and oversees the Office of Student Affairs, Office of Student Wellness, and the Office of Medical Student Academic Support. Collaborates with the Office of Diversity, Inclusion and Health Equity on diversity programming. Oversees all matters of student conduct, including protocols, procedures, and necessary decision-making. Maintains an understanding of crisis management and serves as the primary contact for medical students regarding sensitive and confidential matters, counseling, and intervention efforts. Oversees all aspects of student enrollment services including Admissions and Recruitment, Student Financial Aid, Registrar, Student Credentialing, Graduation, and Alumni relations. Oversees yearly student awards and recognitions. Works closely with the Universitys Office of the Registrar. Works closely with the Student Accessibility Office to understand and implement reasonable accommodations for students with documented disabilities. Oversee the students residency application process including the generation of the Medical Student Performance Evaluation ( MSPE ). Serves as the institutional representative for student affairs in UTRGV SOMs LCME accreditation process as assigned by the Dean. Supports student advancement in the curriculum in collaboration with the Medical Student Evaluation and Promotions Committee ( MSEPC ). Achieves and maintains a high level of professional development by attending conferences and facilitating ongoing education of the faculty and staff regarding student affairs and student life issues. As applicable, performs clinical duties as outlined by department chair. Participates in committees and other administrative duties as assigned. Adheres to institutional and departmental policies and procedures. This position will be a 1.0 FTE with a percentage of time dedicated to Senior Associate Dean of Student Affairs & Admissions duties and the remainder of time dedicated to faculty duties in the selected candidates discipline as outlined in the MOA . Performs other duties as assigned. Supervision Received
Reports to the School of Medicine Dean or his/her designee, and the corresponding department chair in faculty role; and works closely with the Associate Dean for Educational Affairs. Supervision Given Direct supervision of assigned staff. Required Education MD, DO, PhD or EdD in a related field or equivalent from an accredited University.
Preferred Education N/A Licenses/Certifications None. Required Experience Six (6) years of related increasingly responsible professional experience. Preferred Experience Experience in undergraduate medical education with at least five years in an education administration role. Equipment Use of standard office equipment.
Working Conditions Needs to be able to successfully perform all required duties. Office Environment; some travel and weekend work is required. UTRGV is a distributed institution, which requires presence at multiple locations throughout the Rio Grande Valley.
