Position Summary

Perform functional and technical Land Mobile Radio Network (LMRN) Systems and subscribers support: install, maintain and repair all aspects of communications on the City of Albuquerque's private LMRNs including but not limited to local area networks (LAN), virtual local area networks (VLAN), subscribers (Portables and Mobiles), and microwave radio networks. Provide administrative management services on all networks and LMRN security both at the network and subscriber equipment level. Candidate is expected to have fundamental knowledge of LAN configuration and operation, radio frequency (RF) theory, electronic components and theory, RF systems and various hardware and software applications from LMRN manufacturers.

Education and experience directly related to the minimum requirements below may be interchangeable on a year for year basis.

Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university in engineering, information systems, or computer science;

and

One (1) year experience related to any combination of the following areas: mobile radio network systems local area networks virtual area networks two-way radio system repair and maintenance microwave radio networks Required to respond to emergency maintenance and repair calls on a 24-hour basis.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

Possession of a valid New Mexico Driver's License or the ability to obtain by date of hire. Possession of a City Operator's Permit (COP) within six (6) months from date of hire. Possession of a valid Federal Communications Commission General Radiotelephone Operator License (PG) within six (6) months from date of hire. Successful completion of a Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS ) background check and fingerprinting within six (6) months from date of hire. Preferred Knowledge

Theory and operation of trunked and conventional radio communication equipment including infrastructure, portable and mobile radios, radio base stations, and remote-control systems and consoles Operational characteristics of a variety of telecommunication repair and maintenance equipment, tools, computer platforms, networks, software applications and operating systems Methods and techniques used in the installation, maintenance and repair of telecommunication systems and equipment, testing, troubleshooting and maintenance of PCs, servers, printers and equipment related to wireless communications equipment Methods and techniques used in maintaining information system security Principles and practices of customer service Methods and techniques of providing user assistance and preparing installation drawings for two-way radio communications equipment Principles and procedures of record keeping Principles of business letter writing and basic report preparation Pertinent Federal, State and local laws, codes and regulations Occupational hazards and standard safety practices Preferred Skills & Abilities

Recommend, implement, install and maintain appropriate technology to meet client needs Define problems, diagnose and troubleshoot two-way radio communication equipment, collect data, establish facts, draw valid conclusions and prepare appropriate reports to make recommendations on feasibility of repair Detect, isolate and resolve automated information system problems Communicate clearly and concisely Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work including City officials and the general public Perform the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable accommodation Ensure compliance with accepted safety procedures and practices Perform two-way radio communication equipment repair, maintenance and installation duties
