The Director will be the Category Leader for the category assigned to them within the Strategic Sourcing and Procurement (SS&P) department. This individual will be the key point of contact for their category and will be responsible for providing strategic leadership, operational oversight, and administrative/HR management for direct reports and extended leadership for indirect reports.
The Director, Sourcing will be a Category Leader for the Development Category encompassing Clinical Labs, Clinical Pharmacology, Translational Research, Global Patient Safety, Regulatory Affairs, Medical Affairs, Clinical Development, and Biometrics. This role will support outsourcing needs to advance Exelixis R&D efforts, including services such as consulting, medical science liaison, pharmacovigilance, quality assurance, central labs, local lab results integration, PK and immunogenicity bioanalysis, biomarker assays, ADME studies, and toxicology.
SS&P Category Management and Sourcing team manages strategic procurement approaches, ensuring informed sourcing decisions to optimize spend, maximize relationships, minimize risk, and enable business objectives. The Director will lead in forming strong partnerships with business leaders, guiding the team to develop and maintain category sourcing strategies that leverage the companys purchasing power to drive efficiencies, economies of scale, and strategic relationships, supporting the company's growth as a global oncology firm.
The department manages outsourcing via a category-based approach, consolidating like-services and spend areas across Exelixis, including Discovery, Development, G&A, IT, and Commercial sectors. Each category has an assigned Category Manager reporting to the Category Leader.
DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
Support the Sr. Director in achieving department goals through strategic outsourcing strategies with vendors.
Lead a team of direct reports, assign projects based on expertise, and oversee results.
Provide strategic leadership and operational oversight of category activities, including strategy development, vendor evaluation, negotiation, contracting, and lifecycle management.
Ensure team provides guidance and support throughout vendor engagement processes.
Collaborate on spend analysis, reporting, and forecasting with finance teams.
Build and maintain vendor relationships, represent SS&P in governance meetings, and escalate issues as needed.
Support the development of SS&Ps role in contract management systems and workflows.
Partner with operations and systems teams for continuous improvement initiatives.
Lead key initiatives as directed and perform other duties as assigned.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Supervise 1-4 senior-level staff, including hiring, performance reviews, and development.
Manage through subordinate supervisors, providing strategic oversight of daily operations and activities.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS:
Bachelors degree + 13 years, Masters + 11 years, Doctorate + 8 years, or equivalent experience.
Experience in pharmaceutical/biotech industry and R&D outsourcing required.
Minimum 7 years of management experience required.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Deep knowledge of outsourcing concepts, financial processes, contracts, regulations (FDA, EMA, ICH GCP), and industry standards.
Strong leadership, negotiation, analytical, and communication skills.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office, experience with contract management systems preferred.

Our compensation ranges from $179,500 to $255,000 annually, adjusted for location and experience. Benefits include 401k, health insurance, bonuses, stock options, paid time off, and holidays.
