Summary / Job Purpose
The Director will serve as the Category Leader within the Strategic Sourcing and Procurement (SS&P) department, responsible for providing strategic leadership, operational oversight, and HR management for their assigned category. This role involves supporting outsourcing needs across various departments to advance Exelixis R&D efforts, including services like consulting, pharmacovigilance, quality assurance, and clinical labs. The Director will lead the development and execution of sourcing strategies, manage vendor relationships, negotiate contracts, and oversee procurement operations. They will also collaborate with finance teams for budgeting, forecasting, and spend analysis, ensuring alignment with company objectives to optimize spend, minimize risk, and foster strategic vendor partnerships. Responsibilities
Support the Sr. Director in achieving departmental goals through strategic sourcing and vendor management. Lead a team of direct reports, assign projects, and oversee results. Develop category strategies, evaluate vendors, facilitate negotiations, and manage contracts and budgets. Ensure effective vendor relationship management, including performance reviews and issue resolution. Collaborate with Finance for spend analysis, forecasting, and reporting. Participate in legal contract lifecycle management and support process improvements. Represent SS&P in governance meetings and build strong vendor partnerships. Lead key initiatives and support continuous improvement efforts. Supervisory Responsibilities
Supervise 1-4 senior staff members, including hiring, performance reviews, and development. Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree + 13 years of related experience, or Master’s + 11 years, or Doctorate + 8 years, or equivalent. Experience in pharma/biotech industry, outsourcing, procurement, and management roles. Deep knowledge of outsourcing concepts, financial processes, contracts, and industry regulations. Strong leadership, negotiation, strategic thinking, and communication skills. Work Environment & Compensation
Modern office environment with travel up to 5%. Compensation ranges from $179,500 to $255,000 annually, with comprehensive benefits, bonus opportunities, stock options, and paid time off. Disclaimer:
