Position Summary
The
Associate Dean for Curriculum
provides strategic oversight, leadership, and innovation in the design, implementation, and continuous improvement of the MD curriculum within the University of Georgia School of Medicine (UGA SOM). This position ensures the curriculum aligns with the mission of the UGA SOMto educate excellent physicians, pursue new knowledge, and advance the health of communities in Georgia and beyondwhile meeting the standards set by the Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME). The position is a non-tenure track appointment at the rank of assistant, associate or full professor commensurate with experience. Minimum Qualifications
MD, PhD, EdD, DO, or equivalent terminal degree in a relevant field.
Additional Requirements
At least five years of experience in academic leadership related to medical education, curriculum development, or educational program evaluation.
Relevant/Preferred Education, Experience, Licensure, And/or Certification
Strong record of leadership in medical education, including expertise with competency-based education, assessment, and curricular innovation. Familiarity with implementing new instructional and curricular mapping technologies in medical education is preferred.
Preferred Knowledge, Skills, Abilities And/or Competencies
Demonstrated knowledge of LCME accreditation standards and a track record of ensuring compliance with accreditation requirements. A commitment to student-centered education and a passion for advancing medical education. Ability to foster an inclusive and supportive learning environment. Excellent communication, collaboration, time management, and organizational skills. Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities, with a focus on innovation and continuous improvement. Effectively work in a collaborative, multidisciplinary environment handling multiple priorities.
Duties/Responsibilities
Curriculum Oversight and Leadership: Ensure the MD curriculum meets accreditation standards and aligns with UGA SOMs educational objectives. Lead the design, implementation, and evaluation of the medical education program. Oversee the daily operations of the Curriculum Office, ensuring effective support for faculty and students. Lead the development, communication, and enforcement of curriculum-related policies. Supervise and support assistant deans, course and clerkship directors, and faculty involved in the educational program. Facilitate the integration of basic science, clinical education, and health system sciences into a cohesive, competency-based curriculum. Work closely with the Associate Dean for Accreditation, Compliance, and Continuous Quality Improvement to monitor and enhance curriculum effectiveness. Work closely with the Associate Dean for Student Affairs to support student academic progress and well-being.
Administrative Responsibilities And Committee Leadership
Serve as chair of the Curriculum Oversight Committee and oversee its subcommittees. Supervise the assistant deans in the Curriculum Office. Work collaboratively with leaders to ensure appropriate resource allocation for educational programs. Participate in medical school leadership meetings and contribute to strategic planning efforts. Represent UGA SOM at regional and national medical education forums and collaborate with peer institutions to advance medical education best practices. Perform additional duties as assigned by the Senior Associate Dean for Academic Affairs.
