Job Title: Material HandlerDepartment: Purchasing and Inventory ControlLocation: Sam Moore Furniture - Bedford, VAThe CompanySam Moore Furniture, a division of Hooker Furnishings,is seeking a material handler for our Purchasing and Inventory Control Department. Hooker Furnishings, in its 101st year of business, is a designer, marketer and importer of case goods (wooden and metal furniture), leather furniture and fabric-upholstered furniture for the residential, hospitality and contract markets.Position SummaryThis material handler position is responsible for managing the movement, storage, and handling of materials within the warehouse and/or production floor, ensuring efficient operations and accurate inventory management.Essential Duties and Responsibilities Material Movement: Load, unload, and transport materials and products within the warehouse or production area. Inventory Management: Maintain accurate inventory records, including tracking stock levels, documenting orders, and ensuring materials are stored correctly. Order Fulfillment: Pull and verify materials for production orders, ensuring that the correct items are delivered to the appropriate workstations. Equipment Operation: Operate forklifts, pallet jacks, and other machinery to move materials safely and efficiently. Safety Compliance: Follow safety protocols and procedures to prevent accidents and ensure a safe working environment. Documentation: Help verify correct material receipt via Purchase Order part number and description, and accurate count of materials received from the vendor during the receipt process. Help maintain records of materials received, stored, and issued to ensure correct inventory levels.Qualifications Education: High school diploma or equivalent; on-the-job training is provided. Experience: Previous experience in a warehouse or manufacturing environment is preferred. Skills: Strong attention to detail and organizational skills. Ability to lift heavy objects and perform physical tasks. Familiarity with inventory management systems. Good communication skills and the ability to work as part of a team. Why Join Us?
