Summary:
The Sustainability and Public Affairs Manager will coordinate sustainability program within the organization with key external stakeholders. This role serves as the subject matter expert on energy transition, climate policy, and sustainability reporting, managing public policy issues, stakeholder relations, and community connections that impact the company's current business and future growth. Responsibilities include managing the Corporate Social Responsibility program, the ESG Captains initiative, and publishing the annual sustainability report.
Duties:
- Lead delivery of annual sustainability reporting in accordance with applicable regulations and established standards, frameworks, and rating and ranking agencies such as GHG Protocol, TCFD, GRI, SASB, CDP and UNSDGs.
- Track dynamic industry and regulatory standards pertaining to metrics, calculation methodologies, and reporting of information for sustainability and ESG purposes.
- Partner with Internal Audit and other functional areas to regularly review and strengthen internal controls for non-financial data for sustainability reporting.
- Prepare company executives for public speaking opportunities, especially when climate policy, energy transition, and sustainability are relevant topics.
- Provide project management to Company participation in industry events, including but not limited to CERAWeek and the UNFCCC's Conference of the Parties (COP).
Manage the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) program by convening the CSR Committee and overseeing approval process, portfolio tracking, and relationships with strategic CSR partners.
- Coordinate government relations and public affairs with regional teams, PR firms, and external partners to support Commercial and Operations priorities.
- Lead the ESG Captains initiative, providing guidance to local offices for sustainability related training, employee volunteer opportunities, and stakeholder engagement.
- Respond to customers' and other interested parties' sustainability requests and surveys.
Requirements:
- 5+ years of sustainability, public policy, or related project management experience demonstrating successful management of projects from kick-off to completion
- Experience shaping public policy on energy access, energy transition, and climate risk; government and/or nonprofit experience a plus.
- Familiarity with industry sustainability standards (SASB, TCFD, GRI, CDP, and other ESG Reporting requirements), tools, metrics, and third-party partners.
- Strong relationship building skills and experience working collaboratively with internal key stakeholders, external partners, vendors, suppliers, analyst communities.
- Strong writing skills and ability to present ideas and information clearly and succinctly
- Analytical thinking with strong problem-solving skills; ability to translate public policy and regulatory shifts to implications for Company business and operations.
- Superior attention to detail; high level of organizational and time management skills.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills with ability to interact with all levels of management required.
- Strong presentation skills and ability to confidentially interact with the executive team and Board of Directors.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to effectively build and manage relationships with cross-functional colleagues, business leaders, external stakeholders.
- Ability to independently develop recommendations on strategy, process improvements and deliverables based on prior experience and industry knowledge.
- Ability to learn quickly and adapt to a changing environment.
- Excellent MS Excel, PowerPoint, and Word skills.
Education:
- Bachelor's degree in finance, business, environmental science, international relations, international development or a similar discipline is required. Masters/MBA preferred.
