We have partnered with well-established nonprofit organization who is seeking a Controller on an interim basis to support its financial operations. The successful candidate will play a key role in overseeing accounting processes, managing financial affairs, and providing strategic guidance to the leadership team. This position reports directly to the Chief Financial Officer (CFO). This is a hybrid role (2-3x in office).
Responsibilities:
Manage all accounting functions, including general ledger, account reconciliations, payroll, accounts payable and receivable, budgeting, tax compliance, and revenue recognition. Ensure accurate and timely payroll processing. Monitor cash flow, prepare forecasts, and manage investment balances. Compile monthly and annual financial reports; review and analyze budgets and forecasts. Maintain and update the chart of accounts. Provide detailed budget reports and analyze variances. Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal reporting requirements and tax filings. Manage grants accounting in accordance with revenue recognition standards. Prepare schedules and reports for audits, including federal audits. Identify opportunities to enhance automation, efficiency, and financial reporting processes. Perform additional controller duties as assigned. Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or business administration with a focus in accounting preferred 4+ years of progressive nonprofit accounting experience. Exceptional knowledge of finance, accounting, budgeting, and GAAP compliance. Strong analytical skills with the ability to recommend and implement process improvements. Proven ability to collaborate with senior executives and mentor team members. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite; experience with MIP Fund Accounting, Sage, or similar fund accounting software preferred. Highly organized with exceptional attention to detail.
$120,000 - $140,000 a year
