Job Duties: Under the general supervision of the Assistant Dean for Human Resources, this position provides expertise for human resources in the College of Engineering. The position is part of the Dean's Office human resource team and performs college wide human resource, immigration activities, and payroll and benefit functions. Responsibilities include assisting with visa applications, staffing, classification, compensation, policy and procedure interpretation, payroll, benefits, as well as best practice and process improvements. This position requires independent judgment and problem solving skills.

Key Job Responsibilities:

Provides consultation, performs analytics, and/or maintains personnel files, communications, and materials for work unit through various mediums

Prepares and audits standard work unit payrolls, and completes payroll transactions and changes adhering to established policies and procedures to meet anticipates deadlines

Serve as a primary subject matter resource for ongoing immigration activities in the College of Engineering; acting as a liaison between CoE and the International Faculty and Staff (IFSS) office.

Contributes to the development, implementation, interpretation, and revision of work unit Human Resources policies and procedures according to institutional and legal rules and regulations

Represents unit/program at institutional workshops, informational meetings, and training sessions

Receives, responds to, and resolves employee questions and problems

Executes and audits work transactions and changes adhering to established policies and procedures to meet anticipated deadlines

Compensation: The starting salary for the position is $60,000, but is negotiable based on experience and qualifications.

Required Qualifications:

Two years' experience and/or training/education in HR or payroll role.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience with immigration and visa processing duties. Willing to train.

Knowledge of UW-Madison HR and payroll policies and procedures.

The ideal candidate will demonstrate competencies in policy application, process improvement strategies, effective data management, proficient in Workday and Microsoft Office Suite.

Candidate must be self-motivated and have the ability to function in a high-volume, fast-paced, deadline-oriented environment while balancing multiple responsibilities and serving diverse constituencies.

Demonstrate excellent organization and time management skills.

Work well under pressure in the team's fast-paced environment while maintaining a good perspective on the larger impact.

Excellent communication skills in writing and verbally.

Work well with a team and individually on projects, ad-hoc assignments, and other duties assigned.
