Job Summary
Reporting to the Assistant Vice President of Student Affairs, this role provides strategic leadership for divisional priorities and leads the Center for Student Well-Being, overseeing its strategic direction, programs, and personnel to advance student success. The Assistant Dean plays a critical role in advancing the division's mission by fostering student engagement and supporting departments in delivering holistic services that promote student success. Serving as a key leader within the Student Engagement and Success Division, the Assistant Dean acts as the backup to the Assistant Vice President, providing leadership and support to ensure operational continuity across the division and driving initiatives that enhance student retention, engagement, and overall success. As the College's head conduct officer, this position manages restorative practices, guides faculty and staff through complex student situations, and oversees appeals related to tuition, grades, and academic dismissals.
As the leader of the Center for Student Well-Being, the Assistant Dean oversees a multifunctional team of licensed counselors and staff, dedicated to promoting mental health, personal growth, and academic achievement. The position is responsible for strategic planning, fiscal management, and staff development, and plays a central role in designing and implementing comprehensive wellness initiatives that address the diverse needs of the student population, with a focus on outreach to at-risk and underrepresented groups. In collaboration with campus and community partners, the Assistant Dean coordinates outreach on mental health and wellness, builds and maintains partnerships with external providers, participates on college committees, and contributes to college-wide crisis response as a key member of the Campus Assessment, Response, and Evaluation (CARE) Team. Through proactive leadership, cross-functional collaboration, and a deep commitment to student care, this role plays a vital part in cultivating a campus culture that prioritizes well-being and student success.
Qualifications - Education
Master's Degree in Counseling, Psychology, Social Work, or related field. Professional License in related field is required unless experienced with supervising a counseling office.
Qualifications - Experience
Minimum of three years' experience providing direct student support services, preferably in higher education and/or at a community college or has experience in supervising a counseling office.
Experience collaborating with community organizations and the development of student support programs is strongly preferred.
Experience that includes administrative responsibility, supervision, and fiscal management preferred.
Qualifications - Skills
1. Bilingual (Spanish preferred).
2. Detail oriented and organized.
3. Able to effectively advocate for students.
4. Strong problem-solving and verbal and written communications skills.
5. Ability to collaborate with others to develop campus-wide initiatives.
6. Demonstration of development and delivery of effective student success initiatives.
7. Data gathering and utilization for program analysis and development.
8. Strong computer knowledge with software, database programs, and Microsoft Office.
Work Hours
Evenings and weekends as needed.
